Crackling Noise During Music Playback after iOS 4.1 Update

Hey guys. Play music through my iPhone via USB in my Prius. Music has always been fine, but when i updated to 4.1, then started to play music in my car, i noticed a crackling noise during music playback. I thought maybe the speakers were blown, but there is no such sound when i play music CDs or pandora or anything other than the Mp3s. Is anyone having music playback issues after the 4.1 update???

Macbook Pro 2.2Ghz 4GB RAM 160GB HDD, Mac OS X (10.6.4), iPhone 4 16GB

Hi Bart,
The bluetooth symbol only shows up in the bottom right of the ipod app screen when there is an established BT connection (in my case i have the alpine KCE-400BT added on to the headunit). I am not sure if that has anything to do with the pauses we're experiencing, but it was definitely the reason (at least on the Alpine x305) why my audio would drop after turning the car off and back on (like at a gas station) under OS 4 up through 4.02. The issue was the phone had changed the selected output to BT from the cable and so the headunit was on the usb source but the phone was broadcasting over BT resulting in "no audio" as described in a number of forum posts previously. I've also read on other forums that the brief dropouts might be related to the BT connection however at least on my setup the BT connection is the only "reliable" one for both ipod streaming and pandora.

I will get a chance to try the reset trick ( http://www.alpine-usa.com/support/faq/381 ) tonight. I am not sure why but a few times in the past i have had to reset more than once to get things back working again. Will keep you posted.

I haven't tried it with USB and my 2008 Ford Fusion because I always had trouble getting SYNC to index everything, even with very meticulously maintained id3 tags. I use bluetooth audio exclusively, and the steering wheel controls now function fully because Apple finally added AVRCP support. The stuttering problem I briefly had with 4.0.x is now gone too.

Have you tried the forums at syncmyride.com at all?

exact same problem for me when I switched my 3GS from IOS 4.02 to 4.1 on both my Peachtree iDecco and my Wadia iTransport.

My wife with iPhone 4 stayed on 4.02 and does not have the issue.

Issue is: numeric scratches or glitches when playing through a numeric digital dock.

this is a major issue for all audiophiles who have invested in such expensive material for quality audio playback on a hifi system

Similar problem here after updating to 4.1 and using iPhone in my Acura TL 2009 model. The USB connection constantly drops. It will reset itself to the Handsfree Bluetooth connection and I have to reset it manually to the USB connection. I finally give up after 5 or 6 times and just let it play through Bluetooth. Why does it want to force me to use BT?

I have a new 2011 Ford Fiesta with the SYNC sound system. Same issues as everyone else has stated. No problems when connecting either through bluetooth audio or USB with iOS 4.0 (although sometimes bass/signal randomly gets weak via bluetooth audio.) Upon upgrading to iOS 4.1, when ONLY connected to USB, severe sound quality loss/skipping occurs on MOST (not all) songs. Currently listening via bluetooth audio, but really want this issue fixed ASAP! Come on Apple!

One more thing I forgot to add is that when listening via Bluetooth, the audio will simply drop altogether repeatedly. The iPhone continues playing the music internally, but the audio just cuts out. I have to go to General under Settings and tell it it to sync again with the BT Handsfree link. This will happen 4 or 5 times before it remains connected (for a longer time).
Very frustrating. How can Acura and Apple not have figured this out in advance?

I've noticed this problem. I'm running 4.1 on a 32gb iPod and can hear crackling through my Apple earphones with remote / mic control. Changed to my LE earphones and there was no static static; when I changed back to the Apple set and after a short while, the crackling returned.

I was going to try a restore-factory-settings but note other people here saying it makes no difference.

Exact same problem as many above. I have an Iphone 4 running IOS 4.1 connected to my Pioneer car receiver via the iPod connector, getting random silence / gaps every few seconds. Happens to both normal stored music and Pandora. Even when nothing is playing at all and I turn up the volume, the hiss stops and starts the same way.

Turned off 3g, data networking, all apps, bluetooth, turned the phone off and on, nothing works. Very annoying, makes it totally unusable as an iPod in my car.

Worked great under 4.02, so it seems like a software bug.
