iPod Touch 4G and Tomtom car kit for iPod Touch

Wondering if anyone out there has tried the 4th generation iPod Touch with the existing Tomtom car kit for iPod Touch. Does the GPS, AUX audio, and charging still work with the new gen?

Thanks for any feedback.

I have both the Magellan gps holder and the Tom Tom. The Magellan works fine but the Tom Tom does not with my new 4g ipod touch. It looks like it should but it takes alot of moving around just to get the sound but I have never gotten it to charge or the GPS to work. I was quite disappointed. I now need to sell it. Anyway, thought I would chime in.

After using numerous TomToms for years I wanted to ditch them and use my iPod Touch 4g instead.

My Pod has a hard plastic clip on case back from eBay. It lives in this with a simple screen protector sheet.

I bought the TomTom Car Kit from Argos via their eBay auctions for £20.

Now people on here are correct, a nude iPod 4g is very loose and doesn't seat correctly.

However with the case on it fits VERY tightly. Too tight to start with SO BE BLOODY CAREFUL when inserting and removing to ensure you don't snap the iPod connector.

After 2-3 uses it loosens off a bit but always roll the top end off first.

With a case on the GPS works perfectly all the time and doesn't dislodge over bumps.

Also I run iOS 5.1 and the UK & Ire TomTom app works fine.

Is far better than my "Proper" TomToms. Sure my XXL has a nice large screen but the Pod plots routes in a fraction of the time and the serch options are far superior.

It seems that a simple elastic also solves the problem, ou just need to hold back the pressure button on the car kid. It works just fine now with me, and always have good connection. My gues is that making the pressure button and the connector in one piece that can balance is not a good idea, I sometimes had even problems with that with my old 2th gen iPod. The elastic will not only hold back the pressure button but will also hold the ipod tightly connected with the connector. Only advise would be not to use to big elastic, and keep one in reserve in your car in case it breaks 😉.

Good luck.
