macbook pro core i7 high res anti-glare screen garbled graphics

My two month old macbook pro consistently (once every day or two) produces a garbled up screen after using it for a few hours. The only way to resolve this is to restart the computer. I've talked with apple support and have gone into the store for help and so far everyone is clueless and offer no real advice. I can't take a screenshot on the machine once this occurs, the picture just comes up blank, but I did take pictures with my cellphone.

Has anyone else had a similar issue and is this most likely a graphics hardware error?

go to applications -> Utilities -> console on the left hand column you should see safari logs of when safari crashed. You're not really going to be able to do much with them other than send them along to apple engineers who will hopefully be able to use them to locate the bug.

I'm not sure when I'll hear back, but the tech support manager told me I'd be working with him till this issue is resolved. But lets face it if apple just knows this affects one person out of 1000's with this specific model its a pretty low priority bug.

Went to the logs and found a ton of safari error messages during the time period when the issue occurred. It seems to be the same two messages repeated over and over and over:

9/21/10 10:20:26 PM [0x0-0xf00f].com.apple.Safari[132] Tue Sep 21 22:20:26 Daniel-McDonalds-MacBook-Pro.local Safari[132] <Error>: kCGErrorIllegalArgument: CGSGetSurfaceBounds
9/21/10 10:20:26 PM [0x0-0xf00f].com.apple.Safari[132] Tue Sep 21 22:20:26 Daniel-McDonalds-MacBook-Pro.local Safari[132] <Error>: unknown error code: invalid drawable

then the string of repeated errors ends with a few of these errors during the same time period:

9/21/10 10:20:45 PM com.apple.Dock.agent[86] Tue Sep 21 22:20:45 Daniel-McDonalds-MacBook-Pro.local Dock[86] <Error>: kCGErrorIllegalArgument: CGSSetWindowTransformsAtPlacement: Failed

I have no idea what this stuff means, but hopefully the engineers take a look at this thread.

Hey Guys just 1 months with my new mac, I have this issue.
Only happens with top sites I can see the image goes like small squares when I open the sites.
when I turn to Nvidia Graphics stop automatically.
What's wrong with this it's Hardware problem with the graphics card or just conflict with software.
Thank you.
Please keep update it to see if apple find the solution.

Since you are probably still within the, one year warranty, for the laptop. You might want to buy the AppleCare Protection Plan (APP). I have gotten one for every product that I have owned over the years. Of course, I have only had to use it a couple of time for hardware on a couple of the products that I have owned over the years. But the repairs on those items have paid for the APP's three times over. Things normal work just fine, but then they go bad, they go bad in a big way.

APP worth every penny. IMHO and my bottom line.

I Have exactly the same problem on my Macbook Pro 17 i5 ... I bought it just one month ago. I even posted the video on twitter to get some help. http://www.twitvid.com/PIKST

It only happens when using Intel HD graphics on Safari and sometimes in Finder Folders in Coverflow mode. When I Turn Nvidia GPU on all go back to normal.

Its a very annoying glitch or problem. I dont know if I should take it to the Apple Store for Warranty, since i ve not seen anything similar out there.

I am pretty sure its software related since it only happens when safari is on. I made this video (sorry my poor english, i was nervous speaking :D) comparing what happens when running safari and chrome side to side, with this annoying bug. http://www.twitvid.com/VFGF4
I also called apple from brazil an US today. They were aware of this issue and they are glad we have this post in this board ( because they dont know if its software or hardware related)...they said our feedback helps a lot. So i am uploading this video. For me its clear its an incompatibility between Safari and Intel Integrated GPU.

By the waym they gave me two solutions:
1. Create a new user user and see if it happens in the new account.
2. Take your Macbook to the Apple Store.

I'm also having the same problems on my 3 week old 17" MacBook Pro with anti-glare screen. I'm wondering, is this a problem that only affects those of us with the anti-glare screen option, or whether it happens to those with the glossy screens too?

For me, the blocky mosaic patterns appear when i'm composing email in gmail, or when i'm on youtube. Sometimes it appears in facebook when playing games or when some types of flash are on the webpage. Its extremely annoying, and i'm hoping its a simple software fix. For now, I turn off the graphics card switching under the energy saver preferences in system preferences, and use the more powerful one, which seems to solve the problem, but the consequence of doing this is that my battery runs out in next to no time which is not very good. Its even worse for me since i'm almost always working out of the home/office on battery with my Novatel Wireless 3G expresscard, which also consumes quite a bit of power. The combination of the two means that i'm lucky to get 2 hours out of a full charge! And that's even with the brightness turned almost all the way down!!

Apple, if you're reading this, please make a fix for us ASAP! This is not acceptable, especially for the premium I paid on my CTO notebook which I waited a month for. Luckily for me, I haven't sold my old Core2Duo 17" MacBook Pro yet - I guess I will go back to using that until a fix can be made for this problem, or else i'm returning this machine and getting my money back.

Another problem i've forgot to mention is sometimes when i'm composing a message with webmail, the cursor "stalls", so when I go to edit my message, and use the arrow keys to move around or use the mouse to move the cursor to a new location, the cursor doesn't update its position - just stays in the old location, so I don't actually know where the cursor is until I type something. I'm wondering if this could also have something to do with the problems that we're all experiencing with the integrated graphics card.

I am running some heavy tests here last days and no problems using Chrome or Firefox on Intel HD GPU. ( I ve managed to disable NVIDIA using GFXCARDSTATUS ). My Macbook is turned on since Friday. No errors since then.

I open safari sometimes just to be sure, but since i am using the other browser more, no garbled graphics.

I hope they fix it soon.

I've also run into the "webmail" bug when composing messages in gmail using safari. Does not happen in my older macbook pro, but happens very often (not 100% of the time) and is super annoying when trying to make edits. I don't know if its at all related to the garbled graphics bug, but I hope both get fixed sometime soon.

I've been having the same problems with my anti-glare 15-in macbook pro for months now. I've had mine since i purchased my macchine. Whenever I've noticed a problem it has started in Safari but I'll see garbled video in the Finder thumbnail previews and in Quicktime X as well.

At first I thought it was a software issue and I hoped it would be fixed in 10.6.4. That hasn't happened

I have the same problem with the brand new MacBook Pro 15.4" i7 Hi-Res Anti-Glare screen.
It happens in safari, but sometimes the problem starts in Mail and some other Mac OS X programs.

It started happening in the DVD Player application the first time i saw it happen, and DVD player started crashing.

Here is something random from the console since I don't understand what is important for this problem:
