macbook pro core i7 high res anti-glare screen garbled graphics

My two month old macbook pro consistently (once every day or two) produces a garbled up screen after using it for a few hours. The only way to resolve this is to restart the computer. I've talked with apple support and have gone into the store for help and so far everyone is clueless and offer no real advice. I can't take a screenshot on the machine once this occurs, the picture just comes up blank, but I did take pictures with my cellphone.

Has anyone else had a similar issue and is this most likely a graphics hardware error?

Have you spoken to Apple? Can you book yourself into a genius bar appointment? if you have Apple Care on your product, then any repairs are usually free to you (apart from having to maybe leave it with Apple for a while) whilst the policy is in force.

If you need to send it in, Apple will even supply a posting label.

With hundreds of thousands of machines built, it is inevitable that a single product can be faulty. I realise, it is

frustrating, spending good money on a high end product that does not work. Hence the warranty and I cannot fault Apple in their support. Give them a try.

NB: I use "secure virtual memory" and only have 4Gb of RAM. Whilst I have the mid 2010 model and "NVIDIA GeForce GT 330M" (also with anti glare screen), I have no issues whatsover.

I have, however, installed fan control as the built in one (despite smc reset) did not work correctly.

User uploaded fileAfter my brand-new computer (MacBook Pro, 15", Core i7) went to sleep, and I woke it up the image was distorted. After I rebooted the computer, the problem went away. (Shown in the first picture).

After a few hours, I was streaming a program on hulu, and before it could open, my screen displayed a solid blue picture with vertical stripes. (Shown in the second picture).

Now, the real kicker: I returned my new computer for a replacement and the NEW COMPUTER HAD SIMILAR ISSUES.

Granted it has yet to do the blue-screen problem, but the same distorted/garbled imagery appears.

This is not the confidence that I want in a $1,800 new laptop.

All of this occurred after the first day of testing.

I'm wondering if this is something specific to the Core i7 or i5's.

On my second (replacement computer) I was only able to get the graphic distortion error after the computer fell asleep on its own.

I hate this!

Well, well, well. I have had my MBP 15" for 12 weeks now. Today I noticed two problems.

Firstly:

  • Came home from work, turned on my Mac, logged in and left the room.
  • Came back, my Mac was asleep.
  • Moved the mouse around but nothing happened.
  • Pushed the power button and my Mac made a weird noise... but still, nothing happened.
  • Pushed it again and finally my Mac awoke from its slumber... with a big garbled mess of a screen.
  • I don't use Safari and no other application was open but my screen was distorted, scrambled, messed up, whatever you want to call it. It looked similar to the screenshots that people have provided.

Secondly:

  • When I was using Google Chrome today I noticed that there was a 2-5 second delay when I was typing a search into the URL bar.
  • I don't know if these two problems are related but I noticed a few people had this issue.

The issue hasn't reoccurred (yet) but paying €2,200 for a computer and 3 months in something like this happens, its an absolute disgrace.

I feel sorry for the people who have returned their Mac's 3 times and still no difference.

Even worse for the people who got new Mac's and still no difference.

If this does happen again, I will not be buying a Mac in future. I had a Toshiba for 5 years and it never had a problem. Why should the consumer have to suffer because Apple can't make their products properly.

Its a disgrace. I only hope that Apple are embarassed by this.
