macbook pro core i7 high res anti-glare screen garbled graphics
My two month old macbook pro consistently (once every day or two) produces a garbled up screen after using it for a few hours. The only way to resolve this is to restart the computer. I've talked with apple support and have gone into the store for help and so far everyone is clueless and offer no real advice. I can't take a screenshot on the machine once this occurs, the picture just comes up blank, but I did take pictures with my cellphone.
I think OS X 10.6.7 along with the most up-to-date Flash player has made the problem noticeably better. Since updating both I have been trying my best to get the error but all that I have had happen is "Flash Player plug-in has unexpectantly quit" which is good news to me 🙂. No kernel panics and no messed up graphics since updating.
I was certain it was hardware related simply because some people have it, some people don't, and the problems seem to progressively get worse the longer you have it. Heres to hoping it was a software problem that is now fixed.
Which version for Flash do you have installed?
I can see in the web 10.2.153.1, and I think is the last one, but some people here talk about xx.33 version...How I know which version I have installed???
Yes, it does appear that the garbled graphics is no more after this update. However I'm finding that the graphical switching is no longer occurring. I watched a video on hulu after the update and it was very choppy. Then I turned graphics switching off and watched it again and it was fluid. I tried this several times to make sure this wasn't a fluke and it is very reproducible. At least I'm not loosing anymore work do to the garbled stuff anymore. I guess you really do win some and lose some. Perhaps this is all a ploy by Apple to get us to purchase Lion in June...
Mine still happens even after the updates. However after talking to apple and removing the Flash plug in... it stopped happening. Kinda frustrating not to be able to access sites that require Flash but definitely better than losing my mind thinking that I had a defective computer.
As lucobry mentioned, I have not had garbled graphics after the new update and I am not witnessing any graphic switching. However, I am not sure I am going to any websites that would require it? Can someone post a link to a website that should enable the graphic switching so I can check?
The best site everyone should have access to that taxes the intel processor is Hulu.com, watch any video at fullscreen and it will appear slow and choppy. Then turn switching off and watch the same video and it will be crystal clear, fluid, and just like it should be. I've seen other people hint at this issue with graphic intense games and other programs, but this is the only thing that is reproducible 100% of the time and the only thing that has changed is the 10.6.7 update.
Yes, after the update I went to watch a video there and thought my internet was acting up. I check my connection and found everything in order. Then I got the idea of the two graphics cards and thought it might be worth a try. Turned if off like during the garbled graphics and everything was back to normal. I'm glad the garbled thing has been resolved (crossing fingers), but I wish I didn't have to manually switch the cards during graphic intense applications.
I have the same issue, on a new MacBook Pro 2011 13", when switching between profiles form docked (for use with a monitor setup) and just standard laptop. It only reared its head recently.
Also any Flash based content is now putting the fan into absolute overdrive.
I have the exact same problem, I took my computer to an apple store (after many long painful hours waisted over the phone). At the store they did a series of diagnostic test and they said that there is nothing wrong with the hardware that this is a known problem with these 17" Macbook pro that apple is aware of this problem but at this point there is no solution for this "bug"
I'm running 10.6.7 and the newest flash release, and I haven't had the exact garbling issue, but I did have Aperture freak out three times and put black garbled blocks over the image I was editing - so the issue still persists.
I am getting really frustrated. I also find graphics-intensive things slow the computer down significantly. It's really upsetting because I feel I have a fairly powerful computer that I paid a lot of money for, and I'm not getting the performance out of it that I should.
Aperture should not choke when using brushes, Safari should not make the screen go garbled, and with 8gb I shouldn't see any swapping but I am when running Aperture or Portrait Professional, etc. Also, Logic and Final Cut drop frames and stop playing back, even with minimal tracks and effects. I want a new machine!
