macbook pro core i7 high res anti-glare screen garbled graphics

My two month old macbook pro consistently (once every day or two) produces a garbled up screen after using it for a few hours. The only way to resolve this is to restart the computer. I've talked with apple support and have gone into the store for help and so far everyone is clueless and offer no real advice. I can't take a screenshot on the machine once this occurs, the picture just comes up blank, but I did take pictures with my cellphone.

Has anyone else had a similar issue and is this most likely a graphics hardware error?

Mine is doing the same thing (the exact same garbled display), but it more often does it in DVD Player than Safari, and sometimes when Safari is not even running at all, so I don't think Safari is the cause. It also sometimes gives me the dark gray screen of death instructing me to power off the computer when playing DVDs, and the frequency of this issue seems to be increasing with time (though it could just be I'm watching more DVDs lately).

Since Friday I dont have this issues, as I Stopped using Safari. I know it is not a solution, but....

Before, the garbled graphics showed in this specific situations: ( Its important to note, only when I m running Intel GPU.

- First time happened in Safari Top Sites, (only a "corrupted window" as descrived above.
- While refreshing or opening a page, while reloading.
- With time it was getting worse;
- When composing a Mail in Gmail or Google Apps ( The worse Garbled Graphic i ve ever seen)
- In finder folders in Coverflow.
- In a Twitter "App" made with Fluid.
- In Imagens of the Garbled Graphics taken with Print Screen. ( The image turned crazy, never the same when opened)

So I ve stopped using safari. Its okay now.. but i am sure If i keep using it will eventually go back.

That's correct; it's not a true fix. The Genius Bar guy told me Apple needs a firmware fix and reporting incidents like this will help get them to do it. Til then, it's true: It forces you to shut off a feature that should work.

At the same time, knowing that turning off the auto switching keeps the mosaic from appearing can save a lot of people a lot of aggravation (and restarting). I know I'm glad to have this info at this point (and I can't say my MBP has suffered in performance since I turned this off).

I have been having a similar problem. It started with Safari preview windows but it began to spread. I had an XCode window open and that became garbled in the same way. I could use expose and look at other windows but the XCode window stayed garbled.

All the problems went away when I switched to the nVidia card. I was using gfxCardStatus to keep the intel card selected because I can get around 7 hours battery using that versus the 3 hours I get with the nVidia card enabled.

I am going to run the Apple Hardware test to make sure it is not my RAM or something like that.

I also got one grey screen of death yesterday. I'm not sure what caused it but I have a feeling it could have been something with the graphics switching.

What I see seems to start in mail, when I delete something, there is a momentary scratchy line section and then all is back to normal. Can't make it happen and it clears up just as quick. I have tried to to a quicktime screen recording, but it never happens while doing that.

Question:
When you toggle the graphics switching, which card in is use:
Mine has:
Intel HD Graphics
NVIDIA GeForce GT 330M

Having the same problem with garbled graphics. Happens only when using the Intel card, when switching to Nvidia everything seems fine.

Usually random parts of web pages in Safari are garbled, or video played in QuickTime X. This morning part of my garbled Safari window appeared on my desktop. Safari version is 5.0.2.

Also frequently getting the following example errors in Console.app:
com.apple.WebKit.PluginAgent[196] mbp.lan WebKitPluginHost[6498] <Error>: unknown error code: invalid context
[0x0-0xd00d].com.apple.Safari[191] mbp.lan Safari[191] <Error>: unknown error code: invalid drawable
WebKitPluginHost[9050] unknown error code: invalid context
Finder[320] unknown error code: invalid drawable
QuickTimePlayer[4627] unknown error code: invalid drawable
kernel The graphics driver has detected a corruption in its command stream

Didn't always happen. Seems to have started since I upgraded my Flash plugin. Current version 10.1 r85.

Restarts don't seem to fix the problem.

Havent had a chance to call the help desk (not that I believe it would help based on previous experiences).

I had the same issue with my i7 anti-glare with garbled graphics and also with kernel panics related to the Webkitpluginhost issue.

The Garbled Graphics happened on Safari and Firefox also.

I contacted Apple, did all hardware tests with no errors found. Got first level support, second level and now Engineering Support.

Provided the kernel panics messages that i've been collected so far and provide a screenshot from the garbled graphics.

This is the solution that they just gave me: "I have received recommendation that it be arranged to have the Main Logic Board replaced on your MacBook Pro to resolve the WebKitPluginHost related Kernel Panics issue."

Maybe it will fix Webkitpluginhost panics and also the screen garbled graphics issue.

I'll keep you udpated.
