iPhone 4 / iOS 4 - Location Services Always On

I tried searching the forums but can't find this one: Earlier today I noticed that the little arrow icon was up in my top bar, indicating that something is using the location services. The problem is, there are no apps running, not even in the background.

I've powered the phone off and on a few times, but the icon is still there. If I turn off location services it goes away, but immediately springs back when location services are turned back on.

So what the heck is accessing my location and how do I get it to stop?

has anyone figured out a solution to the location services problem yet? i just noticed i have the same problem today and have yet to find a solution. i've tried restarting the phone multiple times, force quitting all my applications, and turning off the location services altogether. nothing seems to work. the closest i've gotten is by turning off location services, which does get rid of the location icon, but as soon as i turn it back on (whether i restart device in between or not), the blasted icon returns.

also, i've noticed that as soon as i turn start an app that uses the location services, it the purple location icon pops up next to it in the "setting > general > locations services" list and doesn't go away.

help!

Which apps have location services enabled (ON)?

If you go to Settings > General > Location Services > ON > List of apps > On/Off. Any that are currently actually using location services will have the arrowhead icon showing next to its On/Off switch. Some apps that use push notifications (like AP Mobile) use LS even though they don't appear in the recent used bar.

Alternatively, you can disable LS for each app, one by one, and see which one is causing the icon to show on your home screen.

so i actually ended up walking into genius bar today. they couldn't figure out which program was causing the glitch either, but the way they solved it was by resetting all the location service permissions altogether. for those of you who want to know how to do this, navigate to "settings > general > reset > reset location warnings".

also fyi, the apple service rep told me the purple location service icon next to each app simply signifies that particular app has requested your location within the past 24 hours, not necessarily that the app is active.

hope this helps those with the same problem as i had.

Yet you didn't state what app caused your "problem" - the LS icon showing on your home screen when no app that uses LS was open or active. Which app requested LS with the warnings reset?
