iPod Touch 4G not detected in iTunes 10.0.1.22 when using Remote App 2.0

I'm guessing Apple's Remote App 2.0 works well for iPhone 4 and iPad, but when I try using it with iPod Touch 4G, it does not show up in devices to enter the passcode.

same wifi network
iTunes 10.0.1.22, Home Sharing On, Library Sharing enabled, Looking for remotes enabled.

iPod Touch 4G (iOS 4.1) (no problems with wifi)
Apple's Remote App 2.0 Home Sharing login works well. Adding Library produces 4 digit passcode.

BUT, again, it does not show up in Devices to have the opportunity to enter the passcode.

iTunes is an approved app in firewall settings.
Win 7 (32bit) Network Detection/Printer&File Sharing is enabled.

Interesting:
When I try to connect to Airport Express with my PC,
I receive "unknown error (-15006)"
Another iMac running iTunes 9 is able to stream music to the airport express without problem.
Using my PC, I'm able to connect to the iMac, and stream music from the iMac to my PC.

When Airport Utility (on PC) is open I can't detect Airport Express (even though the light is solid green.

I'm still guessing iTunes 10.0.1.22 has AirPlay/AirTunes issues, and in general doesn't want to detect any wifi devices.

I haven't yet looked up the error code, but would love to hear some thoughts out there.

Anyone else have similar issues? Are there any fixes?
Please share.
Thanks.

I also isolated the problem to my wireless router although I don't know the specific issue. I upgraded the firmware of my router and now it works perfectly.

The manufacturer website shows that the last firmware update was June 2009 (and I know I was current as of then). However I took a chance and downloaded the latest firmware anyway and found it was actually updated as of July 2010. I checked the patch log and it doesn't provide any more details other than "various minor bugs resolved".

Hi,
some of you here had problems the iPhone Remote while using Home Sharing.
I also started using Home Sharing and got issues too. My iPhone Remote couldn't decide which library to take (Home Sharing or connected library) and when it did so it couldn't keep the connection for a long time.

After checking my firewall, I found out that Bonjour wasn't in the list (I reseted the firewall some times and am wondering now why Bonjour didn't ask for access!). Though my AirPort Speakers worked perfectly and even the Remote App worked from time to time.

I manually added mDNSResponder.exe (the Bonjour exe-file) to the Firewall exceptions and since them everything works perfectly 🙂

Don't need to register my iPhone Remote App to iTunes anymore. Home Sharing does the work ...

Hope this could help ...

I have a linksys router that is connected to the internet and a time capsule in bridge mode connected to the network. The time capsule had ipv6 turned on in tunnel mode (not the default setting - I had changed it) but it was not providing working ipv6 service.

Setting IPv6 back to link only fixed the problem.

I don't know whether I changed the setting and it broke Bonjour, or whether Airtunes over IPv6 was enabled by the latest update.

Disabling IPv6 on your router if it is not actually providing working service may fix the issue.

I have the same problem as youall (almost). I will try tonight to adjust my router.
I just need to be sure: First I have the modem connected to internett supplier. From there a wireless modem is connected. My iMac OS Lep. is hardwire connected directly to the modem, and my iPod is connected via the wireless router. This router is not encrypted, but set up to only accept defined MAC-numbers from each devise. My iPod is one of these, and is connecting fine.

As MikkyX said, I shall be able to find QoS Setup in my wireless router, and be able to find VMM Settings? I have a D-link

Sorry to hear that MikkyX
I found that I had to choose the right type of speed and signal typr in the "wireless" section on my Airport Express to get it working together with my iMac. Maybee this is not your problem.
Yesterday I tried to connect my wifes iPohe through the Airport wi-fi, and BANG showed right up in iTunes 10.1
It worked like clockwork. It seems to me that as soon as the remote is connected to the wi-fi, it shows up in iTunes,
The thing is that I earlier have tried with my iPod tuch gen. 3, but with no luck.
The iPod will not connect to the wi-fi eaven if I set up the Airport Express with no need for password to connect. Can it be the software in the iPod that needs to be updated? The thing is that when I connect it to iTunes I am told that it allready has the latest.

Hi all,
Thought I should share some updates:

iTunes 10.0.1.22 continued to work well and I decided to finally update to 10.1.0.56 and today's new iOS4.2.1

First iTunes 10.1.0.56:
Did a normal upgrade from 10.0.1.22, and noticed that it sometimes experienced network issues when trying to connect to iTunes music store. "iTunes could not connect to iTunes music store. Please check your network settings (paraphrased)".
uninstalled/reinstalled iTunes 10.1.0.56 and recreated firewall rules. It works fine now. I also finally fixed the autostart on iPod connection issue from 10.0.1.22.

iOS 4.2.1:
Update was relatively fast and so far seems to work well. Airplay works to my airport express. The new volume bar in the multi-tasking dock controls wifi airplay well. I haven't tried AirPrint yet, so I can't comment on that. Also, I think that the "voice memos" app logo has changed.

It's not firewall issue. Cause I've tried it.

I have most recent iOS on my iPhone 4, most recent OSX on my MacBook Pro and most recent Remote in my App's. Even then my iTunes allows me to enter 4-digit code but my Remote is unable to find my iTunes library.

It's not only iPod's issue - I guess it's Remote vs iTunes problem with can be solved with updates of these applications.

I'm not sure if people responsible for that kind of errors are aware of that.

Hi,
I encountered a similar problem in my environment where Remote App (v2.0.1) on my iPhone4 (with iOS 4.2.1) could not get iTunes library found on either my MacBook or AppleTV. I was able to enter Passcode for both devices, but I got an error message box described in this knowledge base ( http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1447). Following the instructions, I had no joy although iTunes is in the Firewall exception list.

I kept searching the Support database to come across this knowledge base ( http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1947). It says Remote App 2.0 needs Home Sharing turned on, which turned out to be the cause of the problem in my case.

Just after turning it on in the iTunes (but not turned on in Remote App), Remote App is able to find iTunes library on my MacBook and AppleTV now, the problem sorted! I understand that the original post of this thread says Home Sharing turned ON in the problem, which is different from mine as well as iTunes version. However, does turning Home Sharing off and on help?

I suppose that the second KB link should have been mentioned in the first KB item, which seems outdated for MacOS 10.6. Although my iTunes runs on MacBook, this solution also applies to iTunes running on PC according to kb/HT1947. For PC users, I am sure that port exceptions must be configured for iTunes in its firewall configuration.

I hope this will help.

In my trials and errors, I found that turning off Firewall allowed Remote App to find the libraries, obviously, but even if Home Sharing is turned OFF. I did not want to leave Firewall set to OFF just because of Remote App. Hence, the trials and errors.

Having Firewall set to ON with iTunes traffic accepted and Home Sharing turned OFF did not allow Remote App to find the libraries.

According to this, the Home Sharing seems to have a key to let the iTunes traffic pass through Firewall in addition to adding iTunes.app to the Firewall exception list.

It's funny. It seems that iPhone 4 needs Home Sharing to be ON.

I've turned on Home Sharing in iTunes and my Remote finally was able to find my library.
What is more after that I turned off Home Sharing but my Remote still works fine!

Everyone, try to turn Home Sharing ON first!

That's what worked for me.
Good luck!
