Can't burn CD's from iTunes

I've been trying to burn CD's from iTunes in Windows XP, and when I start the burn, it never gets past the "initializing" stage. I've checked and double checked everything I can think of as to why it would happen, but to no avail.
I was able to burn CD's up until a short time before Apple released the update to iTunes. I can burn CD's from other programs, so it's not a hardware issue. I would like to use iTunes though, since I can't put my iTunes downloaded songs on a CD without using iTunes.
It's not hit-or-miss either, everytime I try to burn a CD it fails.
Has anyone else encountered this problem? Any suggestions so that I can burn CD's again?

In iTunes 10.x, Apple REMOVED the "Burn CD" icon.

To burn a CD:
1. Highlight a playlist
2. Goto: File, Burn playlist to CD, wait/done!

Problems are:

1. You MUST use a playlist to burn to CD!
- You can not just highlight a file then burn to CD.

2. You MUST create a playlist for compilations that you'd like to burn to CD for this work!

3. There's NO meter or musical chime to alert the person of the burning process esp. when it ends! Apple REMOVED it, too!

Yes, it's pretty Frickin' STUPID of Apple to remove the "Burn CD" icon! It's because the company "***-u-me-s" that people do NOT burn CDs anymore, which is Obviously Frickin' WRONG!!

Apple has done and still doing STUPID things whenever it updates iTunes! The company has literally become another Microsoft!

Hi,

Ok, so i've read all the post on here regarding not being able to burn cd's from itunes and have troubleshooted the way that everyone has said. I keep encountering the same issue.

I go to burn a playlist or whatever and when the burn box comes up, beside the device type it says "no disc recgonizable disc drives".
I went through the troubleshooting page on itunes and apple.com and nothing seems to be working. Am I doing something wrong, or do I need to get another disc drive?
I'm just at my wits end about this because it recognizes the drive when I want to upload a cd but when I want to burn it, it doesn't recognize it, so i am very confused.....and furstruated.

Ok...I struggled to get answers for this problem...and guess what...*Got the solution...Eureka*

When you press BURN Tab...you get a POP up with the following, the reason why the Cds do not burn is due to the speed...select the right speed and they will burn ( in my case it was 2x for SONY CD-R 700MB)

1. CD Burner : Matshita DVD-R UJ-846

2. *Preferred Speed* : *Select 2x - This is the reason why the CDs are thrown out as incomplete burn outs...my Layman answer is that all these CDs have different speeds and the average speeds are between 1-4, I selected speed 2x....and wow...it worked, no problems whatsoever.**

3. Disc Format : Select Audio CD
Gap Between Songs - I choose None...you can try different timings
Include CD Text - Ticked

Click the Burn Tab

Good Luck and hopefully it works

I have the same problem with a Samsung DVD/CD drive. I can not burn CD's. I've checked and changed the Windows Registry settings (ie. GEARAspi...), I've played with the speed settings int he Burn CD dialogue box --- and nothing happens.

I can rip CD tracks into iTunes and I can burn CD's in another application (Nero8).

I've updated the DVD drivers and firmware. I've deleted the DVD drive and reinstalled.

None of this has worked. iTunes is clearly having problem. ANY SUGGESTIONS???

Thanks.
