Netflix Problems

Anybody else having this problem? I had no trouble signing into my Netflix account (Instant Queue, recently played, etc...) but when I try to play something on the ATV it takes a long time to load then stops after two or three seconds. I tried this over wi-fi and with ethernet. I do not have particularly fast DSL but I watch Netflix on my Mac all the time with no problems. Also, I had no trouble streaming a movie trailer on the ATV. Just a Netflix bug? Any ideas?

The latest update to my ATV2, 4.2 (the one that added MLB and NBA options), actually fixed the neflix problems I was having. I had the spinning wheel problem where on about half the shows or movies I wanted to watch, it would never load and all I would get was the spinning wheel... lots of others had similar problems, as described in this forum. Well this update fixed it. I've had no problems at all with this update, and things are loading much more quickly.

This is really getting to be frustrating. I am doing laundry and thought I would watch a movie via Netflix on the Apple TV2. It pauses to buffer every 3 or 4 minutes. It's to the point I just had to turn it off. I cannot watch a movie that is breaking up like this. It's definitely Apple's new version of ATV. Prior to 4.2 I would have this problem, but maybe once during the entire movie. Now it's all of the time.

I've got a DOCSIS modem with a download speed of 31 mbps and upload speed of 2 mbps. I have no issues with Netflix over the PS3, but that's in another room. I bought the ATV to watch Netflix in the living room. I do not want to watch all TV shows in my basement over the PS3.

So today I thought I'd contact Apple for help. The automated system asked me for my serial number on my ATV and after I stated it I'm told I am not eligible for help and I would have to pay $30 for assistance. What? It's not an issue with my hardware, it's the bloody Apple firmware that's causing this issue.

Apple prides itself on its customer service but this is really pathetic. I cannot contact anyone, and my device is now not functioning due to something they did. I have several Apple products and am thinking about getting the iPad2. This really leaves a bad taste in my mouth. I don't feel we are getting proper technical support. In the years I've been dealing with Apple I never really needed it before until now. Now that I did it, where is it?!?

Same problem... Returned the ATV for another one off the shelf that didn't have update. Worked great until apple tech told me to do the update... Now, back to square one with buffering issues again. I'm fed up with this product. Between Apple, Netflix, Linksys, and TW Cable, I'm about to loose my mind. The sad thing is, until there's a fix, everyone looses.

I, too, am having this issue. When the issue is occurring, I am getting a very solid 12-18 Mbps download speed on AT&T U-verse fiber service. I can confirm that the AppleTV has the newest updates applied, though I just bought it and didn't use it prior to applying the updates.

Also, at the same time that the issue is occurring, I can stream content on my Blu-ray player without any issue.

If there's any additional detail I can offer to help resolve this issue, I'll be glad to help.

Cheers!

I'll chime in with my issues as well. I bought the AppleTV 2 just after launch, didn't have any issues with it until one of the updates (don't remember which one to be honest). Since then I have assumed it was due to the wireless from an older router and all of the other wireless devices in the house. Last night I decided to try and fix that. I ran new LAN cable and set up a switch for the entertainment center. Fired up the AppleTV, made sure it was connecting via wired LAN and then tested through Netflix, still having the same issue. It plays for a few minutes, then pauses for about a minute, then plays again...rinse and repeat.

I then set a manual IP address on the AppleTV and set that to the DMZ on the router to see if it would help, no dice, same issue. I'm 100% convinced it's not a bandwidth issue as my Xbox 360, PS3, iPhone and iPad stream the same movies with no issue and I am getting between 10 and 14 Mbps steadily.

I hope they get this resolved soon, Netflix is a huge hit around my house...

I wish I had time to read through this entire thread, but it is too long. I came to the forum today to research any Netflix issues. I purchased the ATV2 (replaced ATV1) mainly for the Netflix capability.

I have been getting a "An error occurred while loading" message and Netflix will not play the selection. This seems to occur after my box has been in sleep mode for several hours.

I was ready to return my box this morning, but thought I'd check the forum first. Looks like I may return the box and wait for ATV3. lol

I have a fiber optic line into the house and use a new Apple router for a wireless network. I have no problems with Netflix on Xbox 360s, Wii, iPod Touch, or iPhones.

I just wanted to add myself to the list of people with broken Netflix. I updated to iOS4.2 the day iOS4.3 came out. Netflix had been working just fine until this weekend. Now every program I watch, even standard def, non widescreen, stereo, it pauses so often the program is unwatchable. Frequently as I navigate menus, it takes so long for the menus to populate I'll get an error saying something like "netflix is temporarily unavailable"......

I've tested my internet speed during these times and I'm getting 24Mbps download speeds. And AppleTV2 is using wireless N speed to my Airport Extreme router. iTunes HD 5.1 movies play instantly with no downloading problems......so this is isolated to just Netflix.

Netflix is working fine on my xbox 360 (wireless) and wii (wireless).

"when you change the DNS server to 8.8.8.8.8, do you do it for all the ip address in the manually change option? "

If you mean do you change the router and PC as well, I wouldn't. Switching the computer back was easy, but I had to do a factory reset on the router before my other network devices would work, including the Apple TV 2Gen, which still can't stream Netflix for more than 60 seconds or see the LAN. It's going back to the store tomorrow.
