Youtube not working on 2nd generation Apple TV

I found a few posts on here regarding Youtube issues but none similar to what I'm seeing. I just recently, within the last 24 hours, setup my new, 2nd generation Apple TV. I have successfully linked to my home content as well as the internet. I can see movie trailers, listen to the radio, watch podcasts etc. Yet my youtube feature doesn't work at all. Any request to do anything, such as access "Featured", "Most viewed", "Search" result in "No content was found - There is a problem communicating with YouTube. Try again later". All this without logging in - because I can't log in.

Certainly, there must be a better way to troubleshoot this - assuming it is my problem.

thanks.

So... I was just reading this thread because I've been having this same issue and have been unable to solve it with a Gen2 ATV and all the latest firmware, resets (FULL) logging out/in, etc. For anybody who CAN log into YouTube on their AppleTV (2nd Generation) but cannot see their Subscriptions or Favorites, Spudz64 was the user who gave the answer that fixed my issue.

1) Log into YouTube VIA YOUR MAC OR PC
2) in the upper right corner of the screen look for your YouTube username, it's a pull-down list, click on it.
3) choose "My Account"
4) on the next screen choose "Activity Sharing"
5) On the next screen, check at least "Subscribe to a Channel" and "Favorite a Video". (You do NOT need to enable or "Connect" to Facebook or Orkut or Twitter or anything ... Though it appears that you would. It's not a very clear screen in terms of what it actually does.
6) Click "Save Changes"
7) Go back to your Apple TV, hit the "Menu" button all the way out to the main menu screen (if you're not there already) then choose "Internet"' "YouTube", Your User Name in YouTube (log in if necessary), then click on "Favorites" and "Subscriptions" it should work now -- at least it did for me. (A BIG Thank You to Spudz64 for that answer!! Been bugging me for MONTHS!!)

You are genius'...
THANKYOU - I have been haveing the login issue (where it would not recognise my Youtube credentials) as well as this "No content found" issue.

All fixed now...

Just wanted to also mention... The problem with logging in was due to me using the Remote app on my iPhone to enter the details...
DO NOT use the iPhone Remote app to do so, use the supplied remote that came with the Apple TV - voila! For some reason, it does not recognise the characters properly or something.

Thanks again

I bought an AppleTV in Dec. 2011, and had no problems using YouTube initially. As of last night, Jan. 23, 2012

I have been unable to use YouTube at all. I have reset my AppleTV and logged into my YouTube account, which it will allow me to do, but nothing after that. All I get when I go to search is the never ending loading circle. If I go to any of my videos or favorites, I get a error message that reads "There is a problem communicating with YouTube, try again later." This post started on Sept. 30, 2010 and I've tried everything that has been recommended. Come on Apple! What ever happened to customer service? I can airplay YouTube via my iPhone

though? Weird, this definitely has me scratching my head, and a little upset that Apple hasn't at least, acknowledge that there is a problem.

Ok, I just got it to work!

1) Log into your Google acount

2) Go to Account Settings. It should scroll down

from your account name on top right side of page.

3) Open 2 step verification. Turn on 2 step verification

4) Then open Authorizing applications and sites, and create a

name for your application, i.e., AppleTV.

5) Generate a password and enter it, along with your Google / YouTube

username into your Youtube account login on AppleTV.

This worked for me, I hope it helps!

I started to do all of this two-step verification, but after having issues with my mail and other stuff I turned that off and said forget that. If I have to do that to access my stuff on youtube, I'm lost to youtube. Tonight I checked to see if there was a SW update for my ATV2. As it ALWAYS does, it said I was up to date. So I chose to "restore" the device. After about 30 mins of downloading an update and installing it, rebooting, etc, everything again works for me - youtube included!!

I just wonder why my ATV2 always tells me there is no update - even when there is one?
