Youtube not working on 2nd generation Apple TV
Certainly, there must be a better way to troubleshoot this - assuming it is my problem.
thanks.

Apple TV
Has anyone got a solution for this? I just bought yesterday a new apple tv and youtoube is not working ever since I turned it on, I have tried turning my modem and my apple tv both off and on and it is still not working... everything else works fine on the apple tv except for You Tube... Apple what´s the matter?
I bought an AppleTV in Dec. 2011, and had no problems using YouTube initially. As of last night, Jan. 23, 2012
I have been unable to use YouTube at all. I have reset my AppleTV and logged into my YouTube account, which it will allow me to do, but nothing after that. All I get when I go to search is the never ending loading circle. If I go to any of my videos or favorites, I get a error message that reads "There is a problem communicating with YouTube, try again later." This post started on Sept. 30, 2010 and I've tried everything that has been recommended. Come on Apple! What ever happened to customer service? I can airplay YouTube via my iPhone
though? Weird, this definitely has me scratching my head, and a little upset that Apple hasn't at least, acknowledge that there is a problem.
i've had my second gen apple tv for more than six months and youtube has always worked, until the afternoon of Jan. 23, 2012. It suddenly stopped working. I've reset my apple tv, still no joy.
Like others here, YouTube stopped working for me 1/23/2012. Weird.
Youtube is down for me as well. Glad to see I am not alone. Thought there was an issue with my Apple Tv.
Well you are all making me feel better! We bought the 2nd gen apple tv summer of 2011 and youtube has worked fine until Jan 23rd 2012! I'm wondering what the heck went on that day. Does Apple ever check these posts and somehow take care of the issues?
After about 48 hours it started working without any modification in configuration. I think it was an outage of youtube at least on the interface provided for apple tv.
Now I can't even log into my account on my AppleTV, but I can through other devices, so I don't think Apple or YouTube have fixed all of the issues.
Ok, I just got it to work!
1) Log into your Google acount
2) Go to Account Settings. It should scroll down
from your account name on top right side of page.
3) Open 2 step verification. Turn on 2 step verification
4) Then open Authorizing applications and sites, and create a
name for your application, i.e., AppleTV.
5) Generate a password and enter it, along with your Google / YouTube
username into your Youtube account login on AppleTV.
This worked for me, I hope it helps!
Yes. It helps. I spent the evening fussing with the Apple TV and all the Google searches that yielded no clue. Why this information is not more prevalent on any Apple TV help page, I have no idea. Maybe it is, but it never showed up in Google.
But, this is the way to connect YouTube to Apple TV!
Thanks very much!
I started to do all of this two-step verification, but after having issues with my mail and other stuff I turned that off and said forget that. If I have to do that to access my stuff on youtube, I'm lost to youtube. Tonight I checked to see if there was a SW update for my ATV2. As it ALWAYS does, it said I was up to date. So I chose to "restore" the device. After about 30 mins of downloading an update and installing it, rebooting, etc, everything again works for me - youtube included!!
I just wonder why my ATV2 always tells me there is no update - even when there is one?
