Mine was grayed out too. There is a little "lock" icon at the bottom of your computer screen. Click it and type in your password and it will unlock all they "greyed out" features.
On Your Mac Go To System Preferences > Security, Now Check The Box That Says "Diable Remote Control" There Will Be No Problem Using Your Apple TV.
How do I disable the AppleTV remote to control my iPad?
The two posts above yours tells you how to do it.
HELP!
I have tried both: pairing a different (but similar) and disabling IR altogether, and still my 17" MBP answers to IR, which is really, really annoying! I wish someone could help, it is a pain using Apple TV (3) when everytime I click on remote, something happens on Mac.
this solved my problem, thanks!
Thx for the info. That solved my problem with the remote.
my Apple tv remote decided to start controlling my computer after i updated my time capsule (don't know if it's related) but i can't find anything on my mac to turn this off. i have gone into settings>>security and there is nothing about an infrared remote. i have an early 2009 mac with osx 10.7.5. it's really annoying having itunes play random things while i try to watch content on my apple tv
nevermind,
found it. thanks
Can you explain that please? I have the same problem and can't find nothing about infraerd remote.
Nevermind. Apple - System Preferences - In search type: "Disable remote control" and everything will happen after that.
