Minor Video Stutter

Just connected the new ATV(2), and watched a few free TV shows...I'm noticing some slight playback stutter (video only) - seems more like an encoding issue than streaming - wired connection, and had no pauses or audio stutters.

It presents sort of like dropped or missing video frames...Curious if any others are noticing this. I'm watching on a projection system (missing the 1080!) so perhaps this issue is exaggerated for me, but it's clearly there...

The main issue i was having is a slow down in picture when streaming from my iMac. I have changed the router, opened ports etc. I noticed it happening on my Xbox, so have put it down to my ethernet cable being faulty.

I then tried my AppleTV wirelessly & had an improvement in picture but experienced more of a stutter, skip occasionally. After updating today nothing really seems to have changed, so i'm hoping that when a friend makes me some new ethernet cables that this will solve the problem.

Also, when streaming from my Mac, has anyone noticed that your Max becomes practically unusable? My mouse won't hardly respond until i either pause or stop what i'm watching.

Updated my Apple TV 2 to iOS 4.1 yesterday too – the stuttering still exists.

It is stuttering with iTunes movie preview loaded 100% into the cache, stuttering with local movies…

Mine is connected via 100M Ethernet connection.

My Apple TV 2 arrived Oct 1st and waits since that day for a software fix and regular usage. I will call Apple support now.

The Apple TV 2 is connect via HDMI to LG 32LE5500 with newest firmware (updated last weekend). I am a German user.

This totally stinks! I seriously expected that they'd have it solved by now. I hope to be able to test mine today but haven't had time yet.

The problem is that there's plausible deniability that the problem even exists. Those of us who have the eye to see it know it's there, can't NOT see it and it ruins the apple tv for us. Random people (let's be honest and call them trolls) on the forum here and other forums who don't have anything to gain by disproving it argue that it has something to do with our tv's or some weird setting that doesn't effect any of my many other digital devices (like bd players, hd dvd players, xbox, popcorn hour, apple tv 1), or a network connectivity issue, or the way we encoded the files (when files from apple are the only one's I'm testing any more)... my point is that if random nay-sayers can't be convinced then how will apple ever be convinced.

Apple didn't even publicize the release of the software. I can't find release notes from apple on this update anywhere online. I was hoping to find them and read that it was resolved.

Different test.. now that AirPlay is supported for video, is anyone seeing the issue when streaming from an iPad?

OK...after extensive testing on HD content from iTunes store rentals on the Apple tv and streaming from my iTunes library, it appears that the issue of frame skipping (once the buffer is full) is fixed. I use to see that problem every single time I was watching that kind of content but since the update, the issue is fixed. Everything runs pretty smoothly.

I had an appointment tomorrow at the Genius Bar but I'll cancel it.
