Minor Video Stutter

Just connected the new ATV(2), and watched a few free TV shows...I'm noticing some slight playback stutter (video only) - seems more like an encoding issue than streaming - wired connection, and had no pauses or audio stutters.

It presents sort of like dropped or missing video frames...Curious if any others are noticing this. I'm watching on a projection system (missing the 1080!) so perhaps this issue is exaggerated for me, but it's clearly there...

No fix for me. I'm sure it has fixed some peoples issues. I'm convinced that this issue is something to do with both the Apple TV and the particular TV that you have. I can consistently and EVERY TIME get the stuttering to stop by toggling the Samsung movie mode from OFF (which it normally is) -> to LOW or MED or HIGH -> and then to OFF again. When i switch the TV off and back on again, I need to go through this process again.

I have a Samsung LCD Series 5 32 inch.

Yes I think you are right too. I believe the stuttering issue has multiple source. And one is the motion pictures acceleration options available on your specific TV model. That's why it is difficult for them to figure that out.

I remember going through all this troubleshooting with the Apple Tech advisor (HDMI cable check, switch OFF motion TV option, network reliability, etc) I was at the point to go at the Genius Bar to test the Apple TV on a different environment when they released the update and it fixed the issue that I had.

Still happening to me after the update. Admitiadley it is better, but it's still happening, wirelessly & hard wired. I also have a Samsung TV & have encounterd Movie Mode before. I had a similar issue with my Xbox when streaming but once Movie Mode was off, it was sorted. I've done this again, but I still encounter the issue with my AppleTV.

At my wits end with it & not sure what to do as I've tried changing routers, opening ports, all sorts & still this issue exists.

I find my stutter is happening on Handbrake encoded video's using their high quality setting. I tried a video using the Apple TV setting (which is for the old ATV) and it seemed to work way better. I might try using the AppleTv setting and then manually upping the resolution to 720p and see if that works.
Bizarre condition- but have yet to see it happen on any of my Digital Copy versions.

I accept that things haven't improved for a number of users, but the 4.1 software update has fixed the "stutter when the buffer has filled" problem described by many users for me.

I found this affected both rented movies and video streamed from my MacBook and it's gone as far as I can tell (once you've spotted it you become pretty well tuned into it). I am still getting a 720p/60Hz picture according to my TV.

The other issue I experienced that seems to have been fixed related to PAL material, either from DV or DVD, having terrible motion judder, most noticeable on panning shots. I initially put this down to the ATV's apparent inability to display anything other than 60Hz. However, previously unwatchable videos now display smoothly, even though the ATV still outputs a 720p/60Hz picture.

So i'm not disputing that many people still have problems or have new problems following this update, but it's helped me.

The stutter is somewhat improved for me since the update, but it's not fixed. Does anyone here have a Pioneer 8G Kuro plasma with whom I can compare notes on Film Mode settings? Off doesn't seem to fix it, so far 'Advance' seems to make it the least noticeable. To be honest, I still think this is an ATV problem since I've never seen a single HD source that looks anything other than perfect on this set. It really handles anything you can throw at it, and handles it exceptionally well. I'm sure the ATV is doing something odd here.

Would be a good idea if everybody still have an Apple TV 2 with video stutters post the TV model, firmware of the TV and also if ATV2 is connected wired or via WiFi and type of router/switch.

So here are mine (like I told Apple Support – had a callback 2 days ago):

LG 32LE5500
stutters proofed for Firmware 03.20.12
(local movies, YouTube and also iTunes trailers)
now Firmware 03.20.14
(needs ATV2 testing, came in while checking firmware version)

ATV2 100MBit Ethernet to AVM FritzBox 7270

Unfortunately it's no better with the new update for me, and I can confirm this happens both on TVs with and without smoothing enabled, as well as TVs that don't have any smoothing features whatsoever. I've tested on the following TVs with all variables of picture settings:

Sony KD-34XBR960 (a fantastic CRT HDTV, but old)
Sony XBR-52HX909 (a great, brand-new Sony LCD)
My friend's 46" Sony LCD from a few years ago
A Sharp LCD at work
