Minor Video Stutter

Just connected the new ATV(2), and watched a few free TV shows...I'm noticing some slight playback stutter (video only) - seems more like an encoding issue than streaming - wired connection, and had no pauses or audio stutters.

It presents sort of like dropped or missing video frames...Curious if any others are noticing this. I'm watching on a projection system (missing the 1080!) so perhaps this issue is exaggerated for me, but it's clearly there...

I'm not sure what has changed recently, but I've noticed a significant reduction in stuttering which is great. However, with me, I think it is related to the buffering of the file. Once the file has downloaded to the Apple TV, the stuttering seems to stop. I upgraded my power socket LAN adapters to 500mbps and now I only get about 5 minutes of stuttering then all good!! 🙂

This doesn't help the stuttering on Netflix though, as that constantly streams.

Edit : Just for info to others , my setup is :

* Panasonic TX-L55ET60Y

* Onkyo TX-SR309

* Apple TV 3rd gen with latest 5.3 firmware , about 15months in use.

* All HDMI-cables are 1.4 versions , and can carry easily even 4K resolution !

* 100/10mb optical fiber internet connection

* D-Link DIR-645 router

If ive rent a movie in iTunes , it has been buffered the whole movie about 10mins... So no problems with connections...

Ive looking forward if Apple publish firmware update to ATV3 soon , becouse of the iOs7 is coming to download next wednesday. Becose its odd that if all iDevices look "iOs7 design" and apple tv is an old "iOs 6 look" .

Hope for the best !

Okey , now I get an idea what this problem is ! Tonight we rent the movie "monsters oy" (becouse the sequel is in theaters) .

Rent and press play , about 15mins same old stuttering... Ive checked continously the "buffering bar" with remote. About 17mins the buffering is 100% and the STUTTERING STOPS !!

So , if you rent a movie , wait for the movie to buffer 100% (8-17mins) depending of the movie.

I think that the A5 processor cant handle smoothly playback and buffering at the same time ! So maybe firmware update can fix this ? Or all new ATV4 with A7 processor !

Weve watch the rest of the movie with superb picture quality and dolby-sound , without ANY STUTTERING ! When the buffering is in progress , the picture is s*it !

There have been two new updates to atv3 (FW 6.0) in past week. Now the audio playback (via airplay) is stuttering also... The atv is now worst than ever , even the airplay doesnt work well. What have you done ??

Ive now been using the Panasonic Viera DLNA for this. It works like a charm ! Also the Panasonic application center has Viaplay,netflix and sf-anytime apps , works perfectly and without stutter !

I think that the Japs know how to do electronics , yankees doesnt... Thats the reason why apple devices dont work 100% nice ?

Its time to put ATV3 to closet , no need it anymore. Smart TV brings same things to me and working properly without any hassling in "settings" all the time.

Ipad3 and iphone5 works fine though. Ios7 is nice ; D

I just got a new Samsung 55 in LED TV (UN55FH6003FXZA) and had the same issues as described in this thread in several places. I have a Gen 3 (1080p) Apple TV and I have a ton of Ripped Blu Ray's that I've used Handbreak to turn into Apple TV3 (preset) files. These play perfectly on my 1080p Mitsubishi Projector and my old 720p Plasma Flatscreen.

Once I got the new TV many of the video files started having small jerky parts that weren't horrible, but I did notice something wasn't correct right away. Then on one particular movie "Mavericks" it was unwatchable. The audio would play fine, but the video would get so hung up it would freeze and then try and catch up sometimes where it would speed up then freeze again..

I was also days from returning this TV and I tried this from an earlier post (below) and it's playing PERFECTLY now!!

Thanks Robemich!

I have a fantastic update for Samsung LED TV owners. You mileage may vary, but this worked for me.

Menu->Picture->Picture Mode->Movie

Menu->Picture->Picture Options->MPEG Noise Filter->Off

Menu->Picture->Picture Options->Auto Motion Plus->Clear

Not sure if the MPEG Noise Filter actually did anything or not, but this combination is working for me right now. I have no drops or jitter with Handbrake ripped content streaming through iTunes. SD or HD content both look great. Probably 95% of the content was ripped with AppleTV or AppleTV2 presets.

Hopefully this works for others out there. I was about an hour away from returning my TV for a Plasma.

Just watched the new movie hunger games 2 and running 100% smooth from start to the end ! Now Im satisfaid to the product,thanks apple !
