No Volume Control on new Apple TV

Just bought a new Apple TV, but one thing is realllllllyyy bothering me. I noticed i can't control the volume of it via, apple remote that comes with the product or via Remote app for my iphone and ipad... Really *****.... I have to use my TV remote for that. Am I missing something here or did they take that feature out, cause I was able to on my old apple tv. Also If i stream music to it from my mac i can't stop the music using regular remote.. Just pain in the butt and inconsistencies...

Anyone ?

Dear Apple,
Please give us the option of volume control. My amp has no remote which means I have to get up if I get a call or if a loud song comes on (despite volume equalisation in itunes). Even if the signal quality is lower- it would still be a useful option.

Just set the default volume control to OFF. This would avoid confusion at low signal levels because the user had to enable it themselves. This avoiding all the apple support issues highlighted above.
Many thanks, Cres

Wow, such a bummer. I kept thinking I just had a problem with my setup. Volume control is actually the MAIN feature we use the Remote app for - no other way for us to control music volume when we're outside on the patio. Would this be a reason to switch to Sonos? Or maybe just back to the Airport Express?

If Remote can control iTunes to switch songs on my Mac, why can't it control the volume slider?

Read the first part of the thread Andy. There is no technical reason. The app does have a volume slider when controlling a 1st gen AppleTV, as it does when controlling iTunes.

The only way to hope for it to come back is to use http://www.apple.com/feedback/ and make the lack of volume control more of a support issue than having it was.

An "Occupy Feedback" as it were.

I'm generally pretty stalwart in favor of most of the decisions Apple makes. They generally think things through and chart a conservative course.

But in this case, if the thread had an additional icon beside the Like button with a middle finger instead of a thumbs up, you can consider it clicked Apple.

I'm failing to understand what the big deal is. And I don't mean that in a sarcastic way. I had a Gen 1 ATV, and enjoyed the volume control. Now I have the latest ATV, and we're running 5 iOS devices and several Macs in my home. I was confused when I went into the Remote App and select ATV control, and have no volume slider. But now I understand that if I go back into the App and select the associated iTunes library, instead of the ATV (viewing the same content, but through another means), then of course I have my slider back. So, Apple is clearly pushing everything towards Airplay (but this is confusing if you didn't know any better). But, is there something missing when you go in via the iTunes method in the Remote app vs. the ATV?? I know individual zone volume control works. Just wondering if I am missing something...?

I recently purchased the AppleTV and was very upset when I wasn't able to control the volume. I love my iPad and AppleTV but not having the volume option through the remote app is rediculous. Ugh ummm, I am a droid user (sorry folks), and I just downloaded the droid iTunes Remote app in the droid market. I can go anwhere in my house, search through my iTunes library, and control the volume of all my AppleTV's directly from my DROID device. It works like a charm. Go figure. Well done Apple.

OMG!!! I've been using the ATV and the ATV2 since they came out and NEVER noticed that I HAD to control the volume with my TV remote. IT'S the same remote that I have to use to turn the TV on to switch to the ATV HDMI input. I guess I would be out of luck if at that point, my cat ran off with the TV remote, leaving me with NO way to control the volume.

For some reason, I don't find this ANNOYING in the least. Am I missing something here? Any Apple engineers reading this thread must be rolling in the aisles.

I see the future of Apple without Steve Jobs, how sad. I also had the same problem when I got my Apple TV, NO VOLUME control with the remote ( Really I have to use my TV remote? ). So here is my fix I returned my Apple TV and plugin my Macbook using iTunes, Hulu, etc remote works great both volume and control.

I will not purchase a Apple TV untill they resolve the volume control, why in the **** would I use 2 remotes one for volume and the other for control. And NO i do not want to use my BIG TV remote for both I want to use the Apple TV remote ONLY.

I'm sure Steve Jobs is turning in his grave yelling "VOLUME DOESN'T WORK, YOU ARE ALL FIRED"

Cheers
