How can I view Netflix movies in Dolby digital 5.1 sound?

Same issue for me with netflix not outputting DD to my reciever. I was starting think I was crazy or my ATV box was defective until I found this thread. I'm an audio purist so I can't bare to watch netflix in stereo when I know my device will paly DD and the software is capable! Hopefully this gets resolved soon by either netflix or apple.

I spoke with Netflix hotline yesterday and they told me they are working on it, so I believe it will be solved asap.

Hi Everyone with this 5.1 sound issue on apple tv when using Netflix. Last night, I thought maybe if I used my Ipad to stream Netflix to Apple TV, Dolby Digital would work, well I'm happy to report IT WORKS. Beautiful 5.1 sound from Ipad to Apple TV while watching Netflix. Problem solved. Try it!!

I just posted a fix for the 5.1 sound issue on Apple TV with Netflix. If you have a Ipad, stream Netflix to Apple TV and the 5.1 sound will be avaiable. I tried this last night and it works great.

Dolby Digital works over AirPlay all the time. The problem is if you use Netflix app in your Apple TV and AV receiever for DD. In this case the problem is not solved and I think we all waiting for the repair.

Al reproducir películas con audio DD desde la aplicación Netflix, el audio solamente se puede reproducir en formato stereo.

Esto se había solucionado con el upgrade a 6.1.1 instantáneamente luego del upgrade, por lo que no creo que la 6.1.1 solo haya solucionado temas de seguridad.

Pero a los pocos días volvió a aparecer el mismo error, solo se reproduce audio en stereo.

Esto no pasa si desde mi iPad reproduzco via AirPlay, en est caso el ATV3 reproduce el audio en formato DD 5.1

Sinceramente estoy pensando el volver a utilizar el WD TV pobre pero 100% efectivo.

Aguardo una solución pronta.

PD: luego del upgrade funcionaba la aplicación iTunes Festival en formato DD 5.1 y a los pocos días desapareció junto con la reaparición del problema de Neflix. Tal vez sea casualidad, pero algo en los servidores ha cambiado...

i have same problem,,,works fine through airplay from ipad with 5.1 sound but with apple tv it only play in stereo

I just noticed today that no items in the Netflix Apple TV app seem to be displaying the DD icon. It looks like Netflix have removed that until they get the problem fixed.

It now appears that this issue has been fixed. A number of people, inclluding myself, have reported in this Apple Support thread, the Netflix app on Apple TV is now outputting Dolby Digital for those movies which have it.

However, you have no way of knowing which movies are supposed to have DD, since the DD icon is no longer shown on the play screen, even if the movie does have it.
