voice memos not showing up in itunes
IMac G5, Mac OS X (10.4.7)
IMac G5, Mac OS X (10.4.7)
Hi
I have not read the discussion, but today I was unable to syn the voice memos on my 3G phone using ITunes and thought I should pass on the experience as it may help someone.
I tried several times by checking and unchecking various boxes to no avail.
I then noticed that the last recording on the IPhone was quite long and it seems that I must have forgot to press the 'stop' button to end the recording. I played it ok and it had a long time with just background noise, confirming my suspicions. I noticed the time of this recording was listed as 0 sec whereas all the previous memos had more than this. Once I deleted this 'o sec' recording, the sycing worked fine.
I use the voice memo app to record way points such as street names while making a gps track on my cycle which I use to update the Open Street Map. Often the phone runns out of memory before I finish the ride and did so today and I think this coincided with me forgeting to end the recording.
It was a releif to find I was able to syc once the last '0 sec' one was deleted. I was able to listen to it OK? Glad it wasn't impotant.
cheers
The problem recording was only a couple of minutes long, so not that large but it seems that it was probably not completed correctly due to the phone shutting down to to power loss I guess.
Can't believe this is STILL a problem with the new OS. Fustrating hours spent trying to figure this out until I read this thread and then by trimming the recording it worked and synced over wifi, easy as. However the trim function in the new Voice Memo is really annying to use. You can't zoom in on the waveform for a detailed trim of the audio. Really clunky to use. It took a while to trim a memo to the right point as so not to delete the acutal recording! Come on Apple...
I recorded a one and a half hour lecture today. Tried to get it off my iphone 4s (ios7) to my idevices MBAir. Itunes did not show the file. Tried to share it via email. No luck.
Ended up using imessage on iphone and imessaging it to myself. Laptop now has it, it was 17mb in size.
Worked but a clunky work a round. Bettery to use Rode recorder pro I think.
Never had this problem until iPhone 5s/iOS7. iTunes on my MBA does only sees old recordings. iTunes on my iMac (the machine I use for my iPhone back up) does see the new ones. After syncing on the iMac, the MBA does also see them. But that doesn't solve my problem: I want to transfer the recordings while travelling, because I want to work on them right away.
iPhone Explorer and iFunBobx don't seem to work with iPhone 5s/iOS7. PhoneView did the job for me. But that costs $ 29,95 after a trial of a week.
How is it possible a third party app can see the voice memo's and iTunes can't?
Is there a alternative recording-app that does it's own transferring (not bij mail, my recordings are always way too big)?
Edit: iExplorer (not iPhone Explorer as I named accidentally it in my previous post) does work with iOS7. I now use Recordium to record my interviews, iExplorer sees them without a problem. Great solution. And Recordium is a beautiful and highly praised app. Got it for free once, it costs $ 2,99 now. No solution for recovering old interviews, but you can try PhoneView for that, it's free the first week. Good luck!
And Apple, come on...
CORRETION: The voice memo's do work and I was able to sync from my 4S to LATEST version of itunes Oct 2013.
Make sure you understand how to do this. My recording was 1h and 45mins long. There is some lag when you bring up long recordings like this on your iPhone, as someone noted, after you hit stop and go and look at the recording it says 0 mins! - but wait a bit as it's writing the file to disk/ram This was my experience with my poor old 4S with 32Gigs of memory. Make sure you have plenty of free storage space too and if you guys are messing about with old iPhone 4's or 3GS froget it, these phones are orders of magnitude slower and you're asking for trouble. Using a 4 compared to a 4S is noticable faster in every way.
Better still just pay the $5 and get the RODE rec app, works like a champ and has compressors etc and you can use the program to upload to an ftp site of Dropbox.
Oh and my method / workaround does not work if you have audio that needs to be tweaked as this will compress the audio and make it impossible to edit in LogicX or the like because it's a lot worse quality than the original. If you have nice clean audio the iMessage trick will work.
Thank you for taking the time to reply to me and help me out unfortunately that method did not work I cannot believe I went to Apple asked for their assistance and they said that my file was corrupted that the file was too large and they cannot remove it extracted from my iPhone so therefore it was trash... I could not even going to edit the file or trim it it showed that the file was there for 56 minutes but when I was going to view it would not allow me to trim something that he couldn't recognize the weirdest thing.. There's Apple for you!! Ugh!!
My ipod touch 5 (latest 5) doesnt sync all memos, just some of them, random dates, random size, i can see it doesnt sync a 5min memo, and 18 min memo, BUT i synced a 2min, another 5min, and also synced a 32, 34 and more than 1hour memo........
I think ill try to force to remove backup and REbackup again..... dont know if thats possible.
I also found many other bugs with ITunes.
Apple is better than many other big companies for that kind of problem.
But still, its just good, not perfect AT ALL.
Reminds me of Windows, they work on Windows 10, but Windows 95 still has bugs.............
BOOOOOHHHHH !
Since No response from Apple "Genius" Support
This is how I solved the problem
1.Download application call iExplorer onto your MAC or PC
2.Connect iphone to your computer and launch iExplorer
3.On the lower left corner click "continue with demo"
4.Now it shows your iphone. Click "Files"
5.Click on "Media Folder"
6.Look for and click "Recording"
7.All voice memos will be there. Simply just drag and drop on your laptop or computer
Now I have all my memos onto my computer :-) Hope this helps
THIS WORKED FOR ME! 🙂
1. With Windows Vista and iTunes 11.1.4
2. Connect iPhone
3. Click on you iPhone found under the search bar.
4. Click on Summary scroll to the bottom
5. Under Options select Manually manage music and video (NOTE only if it's unchecked otherwise go to step 7)
6. Click Apply
7. Click on "On This Phone"
8. Select all your voice memos (Warning, you may want to try this for one first to make sure it works for you)
9. Right Click to Get Info
10. Click Yes for the edit information dialog
11. Change Genre to Other and click on OK
12. Click on Music
13. Select Sync Music with Selected Playlist and Include Voice Memos as checked
14. Click Apply
15. You Voice Memos should now all have synced to your "voice memos" playlist under music.
16. Once they are in your library you can set the Genre to Voice Memo again by select - Get Info (Right Click Mouse)
Let ppl know if this helped you.
Cheers,
Bhavin
Yes I solved it with iExplorer. I had 140 voice memos that Apple couldn't recognize but iExplorer could. Apparently Apple needs to purchase third party software so someone who knows what they are doing can help them solve issues that have been around since 2010.
1. Download iExplorer
2. Do not drag it to applications
3. Open iExplorer run as demo
4. Go to Media Library and all your voice memos should be there.
It will allow you to do 10 at a time. Then close the program and repeat the steps. Took me only like 10 minutes. No way I was going to trim every single voicemail by 1 second that is just stupid crazy. That would take me like 8 hours.
I just changed the genre of the file and then it synced over.
1. Connect your iphone to your computer
2. Let itunes perform a sync of your phone
3. Go to the phone details and go to "On this iPhone" (on the right side)
4. On the left side choose the Voice Memos playlist
5. After you locate your memo, right-click on it and choose "Get Info"
6. Click on the Info tab and change the Genre at the bottom (I changed it from Voice Memo to Other)
7. Perform a sync to move the voice memo over to itunes
Note: I did notice an extra copy of the voice memo showing in the list on my iPhone. This only appeared in itunes however. It may just be a ghost image, not sure what impact it will have on things later.
Hi,
I'm also having this problem. Have upgraded to ios8 and still will not transfer memos. I have clicked the transfer voice memos box under music etc.... It seems that emailing the file is the only way to get them off. Any other tips?
This ***** APPLE!
As I understood the problem iTunes doesn't sync the voice memos if all of them were created before the iTunes library was created. Probably this is why all this trimming and renaming things worked. I personally just unplugged the iPhone, recorded the new voice memo, connected and synced it again, and with this new record iTunes detected the old ones as well and finally successfully synced them all.
