voice memos not showing up in itunes

The censors were at work here but if they think they are smart, it's online already on my blog, on cnet dwonload etc. Living in China we are used to censorship and we play around. Shows how much Apple cares!
Trimming worked for me also . . .
Quit iTunes & unplug phone from computer
For each voice memo, click blue arrow on right, click "trim", but don't really trim anything
Plug phone back in to computer (open iTunes if needed), select your phone and click sync
iPhone 4s, ios 6.1.3,
MacBook Air, OSX 10.7.5,
iTunes 11.0.2
BTW, has anyone tried any of the many sound recording apps in the app store instead of the standard voice memo app? Is there a way to easily get those sound files into your itunes folder? Seeing that no one who uses those has posted in this thread, maybe those other apps help avoid this whole mess??
Hi.
I had the same problem and any workaround has worked for me accept third party software.
People's already mentioned iExplorer, but it's not free and demo version just let you import 10 voice memos at the time
I've found a good free software: iFunBox.
It let me download all my voice memos at once and more.
See ya
I just wonder if that software lets you discover the many hidden files I found with astonishment, with the paying software. I prefer to pay that small money than to waste valuable time in messing around to find a solution. I know it is not "right" because Apple should solve the problem, but...
Hiya, apologies in advance if this has already been covered previously, but I don't have time to scan through 15 pages at the moment - I have had quite a few problems with Voice Memos that exist on my iPhone 4 not appearing in iTunes or in the iTunes Media
I managed to find them all by searching in the iTunes Media\Voice Memos folder (on my PC). However, the phone gave the date that the Memo was recorded, so I searched on my PC for a typical file name of the date in reverse order (eg, "20110915" for all Memos recorded on 15th September 2011), and it turned out they had somehow been categorised as "Music" and had been filed in iTunes\iTunes Media\Music\Unknown Artist\Unknown Album
I then went into iTunes to find them and re-categorised them as Voice Memos. I could have probably also done the same search in iTunes to start with, but I'm not a big fan of the format of search results in iTunes.
So check your Unknown Artist / Unknown Album categories, you might just find your lost memos.
Hope this helps some of you!
Hey crunchie1967,
This was happening to me as well. I found that in addition to checking the "include voice memos" in sync music box; you also must check the "voice memo" box in genres. Once both those boxes were checked I completed the sync and my voice memos showed up in itunes. Hope this Works
I have given up on all this and had no choice but to download a third party software - trial version. It worked right away. I spent 1 hour on the phone with Apple and spoke to 5 different people. I am losing hope quickly in this company.
i had a two hour recording, it showed that but it didnt show a fourty minnet one. that was just one example. i have more than four years worth valueable recordings and i am afraid i might loose them all if i dont back them up... please someone help 😢😢😢😢😢😢😢😢😢😢😢
I used the trick of Trimming mentioned by Alex Oslo in the Voice Memo app itself, as well as ensured every box for Voice Memo was checked in the various categories in iTunes (including scrolling down to where it is also shows up in Genres). Additionally, I made sure that the right box was check in "Artists" in the music Syncing menu. The voice memos are recorded with the artist name being your iDevice's name (e.g. "Mike's iPod").
When I did the trimming one file at a time though, I didn't have to trim off anything. Just clicked the Trim button.
I finally found a program that works. Its just a sample program so I used it to copy the one file that I was trying to get off. Its called Iexplorer. It seems to use its own interface to see all the files on your phone.
I also had it out with the customer support because I told them I dont see a reason why I need to use a third party software when my phone is not jailbroken and everything is standard. They kept calling it a corrupt file. I told them if it was a corrupt file there would be no way for me read it with the third party app. In the end they assisgned a customer relation person and gave me a 100USD voucher.
That program was covered earlier on. You will find with it stuff you will even not imagine, sitting and hiding in your iphone, such as old voice mails. Obviously all nothing to do with corrupt files etc. Now the manufacturer here is getting nervous and wants us to be closely censored. So, bad luck as I will post the tips on my own site. Question is still, when will Apple simply SOLVE the problem? Then we would not need all this blabla.
I tried several suggestions listed here with Zero luck. Somewhere in my searching the iVoid of information, I happened across a suggestion to try a FREE program for those of us poor souls using iPhones/iPads while trying to sync using an old PC & iTunes ain't finding the voice memo files on the darn iPhone. It worked like a champ! WWW.SynciOS.com. It's almost 3am, but FINALLY I have ALL the voice memos backed up AND I didn't have to trim anything down to do it. I can see them everywhere and play them from the backup files. Give this a try. Good Luck & Godspeed!
rhodel68's solution on 1/22/13 works. Thank you.
Once we make the conversion, it is also helpful to sort our Songs by 'Date Added,' as this will group our new mp3 versions together, so we won't have to examine each file's type.
I was having difficulty transfering long VM files, and per other's recommendations, I used iFunBox (free) to get the file to my computer. It transfered as a .mov file, which I converted to mp3 using ALL2MP3, also free.
After reading all posts, this one was the solution. I first checked the reputation of the program... then I downloaded the demo and I was able to retrieve my voice memos. It looks like next iTunes update needs to fix this bug...

I have tried every solution listed in this topic - unfortunately none of them worked 😟 I have a 46 minute voice memo of an interview which I needed to transfer to my computer. In the end, I found this software, PhoneView, which offers a free 7-day trial (no credit card needed or anything) and lets you transfer up to 10 voice memos. There doesn't seem to be a size limit because my 46min voice memo (20MB in size) transferred instantly. http://downloads.ecamm.com/PhoneView.zip
Not really a long term solution, but if, like me, you are desperate to get one big file to your Mac quickly, then this is perfect.
