voice memos not showing up in itunes
IMac G5, Mac OS X (10.4.7)

I explained in earlier posting how to solve it. Never found any folder called recording (did a complete search in the MAC - let us know where it is hiding, thanks). iTunes does create a folder Voice Memos but as said, every time I have to make sure I trash it, along with any other Voice Memo that might be sitting in iTunes. The Memos I downloaded I change name and type. Always do a restart of iTunes and to download.... uncheck the box in the iPhone windows within iTunes. THEN it downloads and re-creates a new folder.
Always good to check everything is "clean" opening under documents / music /iTunes and check there too.
I agree it is silly Apple did not fix this.
But I did NOT want to use any other app or gimmick to solve it. There are indeed (paying) apps that allow you to treat the iphone as a hard disk and move around things. Why do we need it when iTunes is supposed to do the job?
I did find a ‘Voice Memo’ folder within the default iTunes Media folder (PC), which contains the memo recordings in m4a format. "But' it is still not allowing older recordings to sync out of the iPod to be retrieved there.
OK... Now I understand. Same in MAC. Normally when you delete the same folder within iTunes, that one should also go away. If not, quit iTunes and dump that folder. As said, the best way is to completely clean up iTunes of any Voice Memo and folder and then perform the approach I explained. Safe your memos in another new playlist after removing the stamp of voice memo of each of them.
Awesome help. Weird as to how to do it? Yes. But it worked. I had a super important recording of more than an hour in length and could not get it to sync. I unchecked the sync voice memos box, closed iTunes and then reopened it. Hooked up my iphone 4S with Lion on my laptop and voila! it synced it right away.
So Apple: I looked at emails a year old saying they had this problem. where are you?
Thanks for the help pjprc
Absolutely Pathetic!
I mean - Ive just spent the last 2 hours searching the internet for an answer to the problem everyone seems to be asking regarding voice memos not showing up (on the iphone - in itunes) even though you can see them clearly in itunes on your pc or (in my case) imac.
The solution for me - thank you bjprc - was to go to the recordings under the Voice Memos (album, if you like) in the Music library of itunes and right click > get info > then change the Media Kind field under the OPtions tab to MUSIC, instead of Voice memo.
And Voila! if i then drag that to the playlists, its now showing on my iphone (because itunes lists it as MUSIC instead of Voice Memo.
Why Pathetic?
BECAUSE I'VE SPENT £1500 ON AN IMAC, £550 ON AN IPAD 2 AND OVER £2000 OVER THE LAST 4 YEARS ON IPHONES!!!!!!! APPLE IS NOW RICHER THAN GOD AND STILL NO REPLY ON EITHER THIS FORUM OR ANYWHERE AS FAR AS I CAN SEE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I ECHO THE VOICES OF THE ABOVE - WHERE ARE YOU??????
Steps to getting voice memos onto Itunes:
1) update Itunes, they have fixed this problem with the latest version.
2)check the box under "music" in the Ipod/Iphone settings that says "include voice memos"
**close Itunes**
3)Restart the computer for the itunes update to kick in.
**open Itunes**
4) plug in device and watch how itunes creates a "voice memos" play list and uploads all your lovley memos... 🙂
Good luck!
I updated to the latest version and did a first test. While the box under "music" in the Iphone settings that says "include voice memos" was still OFF, it did download the test voice mail. Will do further tests to make sure the problem is really solved. Let's hope...
I was having kittens at not being able to sync my voice memos. They were showing up in iTunes, but would not sync with my iPod Touch.
In iTunes, find the memo, right mouse click on it and select 'Get Info'. Click on the 'Options' tab, and where it says 'Media Kind', change this from 'Voice Memo' to 'Music'.
Connect your iPod and you should find your memo will now sync. It worked for me. I hope it works for you, too.
I *just* found YET ANOTHER VOODOO HACK that *magically* worked in *MY* case - I had to give the !@%^&* memo a CUSTOM name and then, AND ONLY THEN, did the !@#$%^&* memo show in iTunes - FINALLY!
APPLE - GET ON IT!
This has been A BROKEN MESS since 2010!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I tried the fix of changing the custom name of the voice memo to simply the 'Meeting' option, and it synched to my iMac. Now I have a mess of memos that have never synched and some that do, with no clear direction how it works.
Yes, welcome to the nightmare...there's various "fixes" - none of which are 100% for everyone, nor do any of them explain why this is such a TOTAL MESS?!
Apple?!?! Is this really that hard to get right, programmatically???
Tried all the above before, uncheck, check, resync, restart etc. Still didn't work for me. "Genius" told me my memos were corrupted and my mac was preventing corrupted data from coming on so it wouldn't sync them, even though they play fine. Anyway, inferred that there were problems with old memos, so I trimmed them a little and it seems to think their new (at least maybe with a new timestamp) and they synced over! So if all else fails, try trimming it a little if you can
Thank you to all who have given advice.
At first, giving the file a custom name worked. Thanks for that tip.
But now I've got about 30 memos over the last few weeks that won't appear on my phone.
Most I can "share" to myself but a couple are too large for email.
APPLE. READ YOUR OWN FORUMS. FIX THIS PROBLEM.
alex
FretBuzzin your method did work for the voice memos that are under 12 mins.
HOWEVER, I was not able to sync the voice memos that were longer than 11 mins. I have voice memos of 57 mins - 1hr and 15 mins.
Even when I go to play them on my phone, they do not play. I am really frustrated because I need the voice memos. I guess I have to be patient
Extraordinary that this thread has been going since October 2010 — without any apparent reaction from Apple!
I've found the FretBuzzin method works for recordings made with Voice Memos app. but not with any other sound recording app. I recently bought a plug-in mic for my iPod Touch 4G from Tascam which I want to use with the Tascam PCM recorder. The quality is great — but I can't get the recordings onto my (MacBook Pro) computer.
I understand that today the Apple share price went over $500 for the first time. I guess Apple is the new Microsoft, the new IBM! Congratulations Apple!
