Stop image capture from starting up when iPad connected

No matter how often I choose "No Application' from Image Capture's "Connecting this iPad opens" drop-down, it never works. Next time I plug in my iPad, Image Cap pops up again, and the drop-down has reset to "Image Capture". Very annoying.

I've tried deleting com.apple.Image_Capture.plist, and a few other things. But Image Capture is stubbornly determined to fire up every time I connect up.

This is with a Wifi-only 16GB iPad, connected to a macbook running Snow Leopard.

Any ideas?

I don't have iPhoto, and as others described the dropdown in Image Capture will not stay on No Application--it immediately bounces back to Image Capture. This sort of thing (in conjunction with the recent extreme slowness of the Finder) makes me disinclined to buy another Apple product.

Is there a different workaround to make Image Capture never start unless I want it to?

I don't have iPhoto either, and Image Capture keeps setting Aperture as default when I plug my iPhone, no matter how many times I've set it to No Aplication. I have repaired all files permissions with Disk Utility, made "sudo periodic daily, monthly, weekly" in Terminal, erased Image Capture preference .plist and no luck. If I restart the system, or even un-plug and plug my iPhone again, Image Capture insist in setting Aperture back. 😕 😠

When image capture turns on, follow these steps:

1) Go to "Devices" and make sure your device is in "Show" mode.

2) Select your device under the tab devices so that your photos appear.

3) At the bottom of that same column, you'll see that icon appear in the bottom left corner:

4) Click that icon and a small box will open:

5) Change this setting to "No Application"

6) You're good to go!

Unfortunately this fix doesn't work with some devices like older iPodTouches and digital cameras like the Casio I have. Image Capture launches but then shows Zero (0) devices listed and no button to click. Works fine with newer iPodTouches but not with older ones. So I'm still looking for a solution to stop Image Capture from launching.
