I Had the same problem so I found if I pressed on the edges of my screen there was one spot that if pressed will fix it immediatel. The problem is once i let go the problem came back, so I simply took a long strip of clear tape, put one end where I was pres and one end on the outside of my laptop. So far this has worked and I hope it continues to and helped!
OK, so I came here with the same question... my Macbook screen slowly started fading to white, and then going back. I'm connected to a second screen, but this screen was fine. I figured out what the issue is (but not sure why). Very bright sun had begun to come in my windows and was shining on my macbook. If I cover the camera lens (webcam), the screen returns to normal (fades back to no white... normal contrast). I suspect this is a brightness detection "feature". Once I closed the blinds, everything was fine 😝 Such a silly issue...
