HDMI vs Component Video

HDMI is digital you cant go from digital to analog with out a converter, i.e. that all in one $12 wire will not work. If using a converter it needs to have the ability to strip the HDCP. I have an Apple tv 2 hooked to my harman kardon reciever hooked to a ViewHD converter hooked to a Panasonic 42 inch analog flat screen plasma and it works great. The ViewHD I bought for roughly $100 after shipping on ebay you can also get it at Amazon just google ViewHD. Picture and sound are perfect. My TV(720P Flat panel) was bought about 10 years ago and still worked fine so I had no need to replace it. I don't condone piracy at all however I don't like to waste money on new tv's if the one I have works fine. There are many converters out there I just happen to have this one due to the high feedback of Apple TV2 users on Amazon that posted that it works. If you wish to see all google HDMI to Composite or to what you want( I use HDMI to VGA) converters that work with HDCP or strip HDCP.

I have a NAD receiver that is using component video through the wall to my panasonic 42" 720P plasma (circa 2006). Like you I like the TV. I just bought an apple tv and I thought the receiver itself would convert the video from HDMI to component. I assume I was wrong since I get no picture. I see the viewHD converter on amazon. Would you think it would work via this route: Apple Tv HDMI to ViewHD converter to NAD receiver (component in) to Panasonic Plasma
Thanks for any help or insight.
Stripping HDCP would technically be of dubious legality and a product which did so a grey area. I've heard of these products looking for something else and they sound very useful if they work but Apple would frown on discussion detailing how to circumvent HDCP based on their T&Cs. That's not to say I wouldn't be intrigued to know!
I have a set-up almost exactly like G-Don, except that I've got multiple HDMI sources plugged in to a Denon AV receiver and the Misubishi 65" connected as a monitor via a ViewHD VHD-H2YVs HDMI to comoponent converter. It turns out that the Atlona HD550 DOES NOT work to connect the appleTV. The "supported resolutions" listed on the atlona web page are not correct. It does not output anything compatible with the mitsubishi. I've just returned it for a HD560 as per G-Don's post. Fingers crossed.
well I was wondering if i have this hdmi to component cord I am getting a converter is there any reason I can't just join together the hdmi ends so that both end will be a component ? I plan to have this plugged in to my hdtv and than (I would plan to plug my ipad to hdmi to a converter for hdmi to component is there any reason I can't join both hdmi parts so that the hdmi parts are in the middle and both ends the part coming out of the converter is component than hdmi joined to hdmi to component plugged into tv? it looks lpad to converter to component joined to an hdmi to component in to the tv? any thoughts are appreciated please thank you
