iTunes - Network Connection Time Out

I installed iTunes for the first time last week and it was working fine. I had some virus activity going on after the installation and after my antivirus software detected it, it seems to be gone. Then I had issues connecting to the internet with firefox and had to change my proxy setting. Since then, I have not been able to access the iTunes store. I am getting the following error message: iTunes could not connect to the iTunes store. The network connection timed out. Here are the results from the diagnostic test:

I went through the Apple on-line help pages and managed to send a web mail to their iTunes support team. The email I received back from them referred me back to the web site! Oh well.

Still not working today and judging by the number of views this thread is getting this is a common problem - getting on for three thousand views in just a few days. If they are all affected customers, and if they are only the ones to find this thread, how many others are affected??!!

Glad I read this. I have had the same issues, started about a week ago, right after I did a HUGE Microsoft update. I thought it was my phone because I can only get into the iTunes store on 3G and not wi-fi. Once I do that, if I turn on the wi-fi again and not use 3G I can stay connected for about 10-15 minutes to download any large app updates or whatever, then I start getting locked out again on wi-fi. And on my PC I have the same error about 90% of the time, but at random it will let me in, then a little while later, I'm locked out again.

I went as far as to restore my entire iPhone thinking I had a bug, but it turns out it wasn't. I have no issue accessing the store with the wi-fi at work, so it's something effecting the connection at home only and it's not happening 100% of the time, but almost all the time.

I will keep coming back to this post, hoping for a solution!

One more for the list, I have had the same issue "connection time out" when connecting via home broadband (BT home hub). This also affects my ipad over wifi.

Recently upgraded to BT Infinity as was working OK and then Friday last week errors occurred.

Can connect and purchase music via iphone 4 over 3g network.

Hopefully see a response soon from Apple, they must be losing revenue on this.

and another case added to the pile.

I registered my complaint by email yesterday, and got back a list of things to check. I am an IT professional so had done most of those anyway, tried the flushdns which worked for some, but didn't for me.

It seems that either there is a bug with the new version, or there is a problem with their backend servers (maybe they did an upgrate or maintenance work on them).

I've pushed my case back to them now, fingers crossed they don't keep telling me it's a problem with my pc!

This has just been posted by a Mod on the BT forum I referred to previously:

Greetings all,

We have had a look into this and the problem certainly is not specific to BT Broadband.

The same problem is all onver the apple Forums and I being reported in many different regions across alot of ISPs which leads us to think there is no particular issue on the BT side.

Hopefully it will get sorted soon.

Cheers

Not sure Apple actually have Mods monitoring their discussions - they would probably want to charge us for using the site if they did!!

Great news that some of you are now able to connect!

It is still not working for me yet, but I will keep trying it 🙂

I have also tried to log on at my parents house (O2 rather than BT) and it is giving a similar error message 'unable to connect' etc.

Fingers crossed we won't have to wait too long for someone to sort it out. As previously stated - dont care whose problmem it is, just want it fixed 🙂

This seems to be sporadic still for me. Updated my podcasts in iTunes on my PC and all but one were able to update. The one failed to update due to a network connection time out :P

Last night tried to rent a movie via Apple TV and took 2 hrs (!?!) before I was able to watch it.

Not having a problem surfing the net on my PC so I suspect it is not my network connection...
