Netflix pausing/buffering issues

Hey all!

I bought my apple tv yesterday, mainly for the purposes of watching netflix, so my parents can have the wii back. Everything works fine, youtube, flicker, itunes and so forth, but then when I would try to watch an episode of tv on netflix, every one to two mins it would pause for 30ish seconds and have the spinning wheel going, like it was buffering.

Has anyone else had these issues? If so, how do you fix it?

Thanks!

I have had the same Roku box for 4 years and it works relatively well. I just also hooked up an ATV2 to my system. Both of these are are wireless via a Time Cap with TW Cable high speed giving me about 17Mbps download speeds. Everything worked fine for a month, then about a week ago the ATV2 just stopped being able to retrieve Netflix shoes while the Roku usually can. In fact, I don't know who to blame (Time Warner, Netflix or Apple) though becasue the quality of anything I view via Neflix has gone down signifigantly in the last week. I rebooted the ATV2 and now it is streaming some content again. We'll see how it all goes. Very frustrating.

Looks like the CDN change has solved most of the serious buffering issues. As it looks like most on this thread had specific buffering issues NOT caused by network settings, routers, account problems, I suggest anyone else that is having log-on/off or services issues create a new thread with that headline.

Again on behalf of those that did or have not yet thanks Brad: Thanks!

First off, thank you Bradley for the diagnoses and the corrective action on apples part. It is disappointing that apple doesn't catch an detest these items before they hit the customer; atv2 has taken a similar path to that of MobileMe which has frustrated many a loyal Apple customer.

Enough moaning, onto some additional thoughts on improvement. When I use my optonline service to rent the same movie it remains dramatically faster than ATV which brings me abuse from my loving family who is into instantaneous gratification of speed. So, do the cable providers and CDN's use some type of MPLS network to give content loading priority over Apple ATV and Netflix?

Thank you for the help and I remain a loyal apple fan and actually bought an atv2 for my dad of 73 for Fathers day.

Does anyone else get frustrated with the "back to the top" glitch in the Netflix app on the ATV2? After selecting a title that may be #100 (for example), if you choose to back out, the selection goes back to the top of the queue & you have to scroll back down through all the titles to continue browsing your instant movies.

Just an annoyance. Has everyone's ATV2 been behaving? Mine seems to be doing well since the CDN fix. A few VBR moments, but otherwise working great!

I have been having the same problem for a while now. When I bought the Apple TV 2 new in Janurary it worked great with Netflix, no problems at all. Since about the end of April I have rarely been able to watch a TV show or movie on it without it stopping 2-3 times sometimes more. I have jsut about given up on the ATV2. I also have a ps3 that I run netflix on and it has no problems at all and never has had a problem for over 2 years. Like others are saying it has nothing to do with the internet connection and I have tried everything and the problem still exists. I am not sure whos to blame either apple or netflix but I have no problem watching netflix on the ps3, computer, iphone, or ipad. I bought the ATV2 only for netflix and its almost impossible to watch it. From reading threads it seems like this is an old problem that has yet to be fixed. If anyone out there knows how to solve this problem of the ATV2 randomly stopping while streaming netflix please enlighten us!

I had the same problem with my ATV2, watched one night and then didn't work for over a week, kept saying couldn't find the server, did all the reboots etc, but nothing. I was on 4.11 which worked perfectly before. I bit the bullet and upgraded to 4.22, works like a charm now including XBMC which is why I was reluctant due to the video/audio issues. Seems they corrected these issues and now works with no issues in excluding XBMC.

Do the upgrade if you still having issues.

It’s likely a bandwidth issue. The good news is there is asimple solution. There is a device called a MoCA Adapter, you can get them onAmazon, Bestbuy, Fry’s etc. It’s a kit: one goes at your cable modem, the secondwill connect to your ATV. Once you have the adapters in place, ATV will use thecoax connection in your home to deliver Ethernet speeds and connectivity. Youcan get more info on the technology www.mocablog.net. Amazon has a kit right nowfor $159.00 http://amzn.to/nZojdj. Hopethis helps.

I have just started having this problem so bad that all movies on Netflix through my atv2 are unwatchable and I am hardwired not using wireless. Yet I can steam just fine on my laptop and iPad just fine.

Before when I had buffeting problems I could hit pause and you could see the buffer bar fill Thames play once a little more ofthe movie downloaded but now nothing. I have reset my router and atv2 with the same results. I'd the problem went away it is back.

I just started experiencing the buffering issues as well, all was fine until about 1 week ago and both ATV2 boxes are streaming with buffer issues. I run a business out of my home so I have TWC Business Calss with the fastest available uploads and downloads in my area. Everything else works fine (other than updates from any iTunes on any of the Macs). I don't think this isssue is solved quite yet.
