Netflix pausing/buffering issues

Hey all!

I bought my apple tv yesterday, mainly for the purposes of watching netflix, so my parents can have the wii back. Everything works fine, youtube, flicker, itunes and so forth, but then when I would try to watch an episode of tv on netflix, every one to two mins it would pause for 30ish seconds and have the spinning wheel going, like it was buffering.

Has anyone else had these issues? If so, how do you fix it?

Thanks!

I have to agree with vazandrew in that it's a combination of the ATV2 firmware and some servers but I believe it's apple that has to correct the problem. All my other apple devices have no problems with Netflix... only my ATV2 has had issues. I was able to correct the problem with a manual DNS server configuration. I only had to do that after the most recent ATV2 updates. So hopefully Apple is working on the issue.

Update - I took my ATV into the local Apple store and spoke with a Genius about this issue and what I've done to try and resolve the problem (everything listed in this thread that I've tried). He said he thought I went "above and beyond" in trying to correct this issue and he felt that my ATV was defective and gave me a new one.

I'm going to hook it up tonight and I'll report back if I see a difference. Stay tuned...

I've had the ATV replacement for about a week now so here's the update so far.... When I hooked it up I did all of the set up automatically (network, etc). I had the latest software installed on it so I didn't need to do a download. I put on Netflix and had a couple of short pauses when watching an HD movie. The pauses were shorter than the ones I had before that seemed to last for 30 seconds or so. At that point I changed the DNS setting to .008.008.004.004 (as suggested in this thread) and haven't had a problem since.

So it's possible my ATV was bad, but before you bring it back to the Apple store, make sure to try changing your DNS first. it may solve the problem.... Again, I've only had it for a week with limited use, but thus far it seems to be working. Good luck!

I'm an Apple fan for 30 years, Verizon FiOs user for about 5 years, Netflix for two. Love 'em all, but the combination of Apple TV, FiOs and Netflix for the past month has been atrocious. Everyone is pointing fingers at everyone else. Extreme latency, pauses on every movie or TV show or "Cannot connect to Netflix. Try again later."

P L E A S E help me understand who's at fault for the horrible Netflix latency over Apple TV. I want to cancel whatever service is at fault, and if it's Apple TV, pound the thing to powder with a Louisville Slugger.

True. I have my suspicions it's ATV. Same network/routers at home using the computer or Xbox to stream have no problems. What's the variable? ATV.

But thousands of disgruntled ATV users won't push Apple to do anything soon. We've got to raise **** with Netflix and have them twist Apple's arm. Without Netflix, the ATV is lame. A few thousand people threatening Netflix with cancellation may get them to make a call to Cupertino.

I've been a ATV owner since Day 1. It was great while Steve was alive and without the last update. I'm just sayin...
