No Backlit Keyboard? GLOSSY screen????!!!!!

No thanks, Apple.

Omitting the backlit keyboard was a HUGE mistake on your part. Additionally, the Macbook Air was the last bastion at Apple for those of us who prefer (and rightly so) MATTE finish displays. A glossy display on an ultraportable is like Christmas in July - it just doesn't belong.

I'll be holding out until someone at Apple comes to their senses and re-installs the backlit keyboard. I guess I'll get quite a few more miles with my Rev. C Macbook Air after all......... 8-(

Macbook Air Rev. C, Mac OS X (10.6.4), no backlit keyboard = NO SALE!

Clearly this thread has a life of its own; however I am certainly hoping it doesn't cause any reader to avoid the MBA. I absolutely believe this is the best computer that I have ever owned as it is so complete yet so portable. My eyesight has never been good enough to think I would use a cell phone platform to actually browse the web or do computing and the tablets available have never had complete enough feature sets to pull my attention their way. The MBA however is exactly what I had wished someone would release and it took me about a month after release to get to the Apple Store and pick one up. My iMac now feels like the Maytag repair man.

Why people dont get it? Who cares if the user can type with or without looking? Who cares if he is a computer wizz or some 16 yrs old or a programming guru?

if everyone can type without looking, why do we even have labels on each key? If your argument is valid, then hey lets remove all the leters and labels on the keys, and lets just make them without any clue which key is what! Lots of us here use both PC and MACs, I rather see which key when I switch back and forth from MAC to PC, and sometimes I wanna see my **** keys at night in the car without lighting and killing my car battery at night. Its my own special needs; I need a backlit keyboard on my MBA Air, end of story.. It has nothing to do with anyone else's personal or opinion, it is my own need! So now Apple are retards for including a backlit keyboard on the previous MBAs? Or it was something they should not have done in the first place? Seriously, anyone who is happy with their MBA as is, please go enjoy it and mind you businesses.

Yes backlit keyboard on the MBA was a deal breaker for me as well. I was about to buy the newest one but found out it was not backlit so no deal for me. For you unimaginative square's who don't think it is important or what it could be used for how about students taking notes when a slide show is on and the class room has been darkened. Or I am not part of Apple's market either?

Let me see if I can help:

(1) Backlit keyboards are useful to some.
(2) If backlit keyboards went completely away, the people that find them useful would still buy computers. I bought one before I had the option; didn't you?
(3) Perfectly reasonable to wait for a feature you find useful.
(4) Per the great point above, if you think people ought to be able to touch type in the dark, then are you saying you think key labels are pointless and the keys should be blank? No? Why not? Oh, because you think the key names ought to be visible sometimes? Then why just in the light? You have no argument.

I like my backlit keyboard. If I had to by another computer, I would look for that feature. Were it unavailable, I would buy a computer without the feature and deal. If I didn't really need another computer right then and there, I would wait.

Does that sound reasonable?

There are definitely people that need a backlit keyboard and while I am not one of them, I have read some of the comments posted and I see that it is really important for some. If it is that important, there is still the option of buying a MBP, where the option is still alive and well. For the world's sexiest laptop, it is no longer an option...

It is no issue when I can use a backlit keyboard. The desk's I use have a slope so I need my display tilted greater then 90 degrees for a proper viewing angle. The screen can sometimes provide enough light when turned up to 100% brightness but that really kills battery life. I know the backlit keyboard also uses battery life up but when used on low it does not use any where near what the display does. Just admit it was a bad move, and don't worry they will still let you be a customer even if you criticize them.

Firstly, I am fine with you criticizing what ever companies you choose, even Apple. Don't know that I said anything to make you think otherwise. If you want to believe that a slanted desk top makes it necessary for you to tilt your display a certain way than I guess problem solving is kind of a waist of time in trying to give you objective ideas to help. Lastly, there is no way that I could agree that the MBA product and its features were a "bad move", in that I have found the 11.6" MBA to be the best computer I have owned (and I have had a great number of computers).

Okay Steve relax guess it is hard for you to pick up on sarcasm in type. Anyway if you think your MBA is the greatest CPU you should try one with a backlit KB. Speaking of not wasting time you seem to be contradicting that every time you reply back. Just for kicks can you tell me how using my display @ 100% brightness is problem solving? Who do you work for? Might be time to short sell that stock. LOL

Just because you asked... I didn't suggest you use your display at "100% brightness", you mentioned that. If you actually take time to objectively review my response to your original post, you will see that I was only trying to suggest a potential solution to the specific problem you conveyed. Remind me not to put forth any effort to offer ideas if you are actually attempting to demonstrate your "sarcasm", rather than recording your actual problems. For the record, I have no issue with Apple adding a backlit keyboard to the new MBA for those that have that requirement. My motive in any of my posts on this thread is to offset the possibility of someone missing out on a great computer due to this particular feature discussion.
