No Backlit Keyboard? GLOSSY screen????!!!!!

No thanks, Apple.

Omitting the backlit keyboard was a HUGE mistake on your part. Additionally, the Macbook Air was the last bastion at Apple for those of us who prefer (and rightly so) MATTE finish displays. A glossy display on an ultraportable is like Christmas in July - it just doesn't belong.

I'll be holding out until someone at Apple comes to their senses and re-installs the backlit keyboard. I guess I'll get quite a few more miles with my Rev. C Macbook Air after all......... 8-(

Macbook Air Rev. C, Mac OS X (10.6.4), no backlit keyboard = NO SALE!

Respectfully I have to suggest you don't get worked up about this thread's sarcasm content now as it has surely run it's course, and there's nothing left to be said that hasn't been covered in the last 14 pages.

Sarcasm & general tomfoolery is all it's good for now, so I suggest everyone packs up & goes home. MBP & MBA gen 1 users like me will have by now decided to buy or not to buy...... I am holding off an upgrade to MBA until the back light returns. Clearly you and many others are not so concerned.... So let's just agree to disagree.

OK?.... Topic closed 🙂

I've started to work with the mba in 2008, rev a.

I thought 2 months ago that it was time to shift to the brand new ssd based mba.

Working as a professionnal windows applications developer for 21 years so far, i thought that when you were buying the next generation of a product you were going to pay more for more features (just like the whopping ssd's that were available)

My point is that i don't want, i don't need the bulky macbook pro.(yes bulky...)..

Actually the logic behind removing the backlit keyboard is pure pettiness marketing that will conduct to a curious side effect: real people against all odds will stick to their old mba, just like i did, i bought a 128GB renice ssd and replace the old 80GB newf old harddrive with it.

For those of you who think that they don't need to look at their keyboard while typing i understand that you don't need the backlit keyboard, for those who think that working in the dark is not good for my eyes i think you just never had that wonderful backlit keyboard that was stock in the macbookair...

Oh and for the purists, i'm using my old mba with vmware fusion that allows me to exclusively work professionnally with windows, and when i'm tired of working...late at night i close my virtual machine, play with mac os since there's nothing but the unix shell serious in apple OS.

"Hi i'm a Mac, no I'm a pc running Mac OS"

well....if it's just about fautes d'ortographe en Anglais, I give you the point.

I'd like to see your written or spoken french by comparison.

But you're right, good communication starts with well written language.

That's said is there something else about the current subject that you'd like to add, or simply just try to demonstrate your english written superiority, as a matter of fact i don't think that it has something to do with my comment.

Windows btw you must write it "Windows" not windoze...🙂

Don't worry i don't take it personal since my written french is perfect.

bye

I just received my brand new MBA today and I must say that I am somewhat confused about the amount of peepz here crying about the new MBA's not having a backlit keyboard. Apple has redesigned the keyboard with high reflective keys so you are able to distinguish the keys perfectly, even in low light conditions. In fact, I am writing this message in the dark, with only my screen to light the keyboard and can see all the keys quite good. On my MBP which I had before, I used to turn down the backlit keys to an absolute minimum to safe battery life, so I think this has clearly been the choice by Apple to safe energy.

I do think, however, that Apple should have made it possible to order the backlit keyboard as a BTO option, so existing users of the MBA could have a choice in this. For these peeps I hope Apple will listen and put this feature back in the future MBA's.

Cheers.

I couldn't agree more with you.

I've bought a brand new one (second generation) (there were some nice features, especially more ram and bigger ssd), but when i saw that the keyboard was'nt backlit, i sent it back.

I've refurbished mine and sort of upgraded it: replaced the hard drive with a ssd (renice 120), doing a great job. But overall i've kept my screen and my backlit keyboard, that was what i needed first!

@GuyverIV

Apple has so much redesigned the keyboard that they forgot to put the backlit underneat.....I have had the first generation and the new side by side for one week, and truly there was no difference "on the redesigned keys (but the backlight"....you're stuck with you non backlit keyboard, you like it, keep it.

Oh and btw: was is interesting with the backlit keayboard is: you can use it during the day also....so "peepz" youself rude character

Soooo I wanna know from the people who were opposed to the backlit keyboard's existence: Why in the world did Apple bring it back? Same size, same thickness, same weight. So how do you justify your noble arguments now?! Apple just proved to all of you that it CAN be done, and it was. I feel bad for anyone who did not wait and now regrets it. This MBA is cheaper, more equipped, and with a backlit keyboard! You can continue to tilt your screen all you want, it would never make up for a backlit keyboard, simple as that.

Next time you make assumptions and conclusions, think again. Anyhow, the current new MBA is the one I was hoping for in the first place: I5 CPU, 4GB standard, SSD, same size, same battery and same dimensions.

All that aside, will grab one tomorrow 🙂
