iPhoto '11 — View Keywords doesn't work, they're missing!

I just upgraded to iLife '11 — in iPhoto, keywords no longer appear under the pictures. I can toggle "View Ratings" on/off and I see the stars. However, the keywords are missing!

Anyone else having this problem?!? I am disappoint.

My feedback, already submitted to Apple ( http://www.apple.com/feedback/iphoto.html):

The ability to view keywords with thumbnails was an essential and basic feature in every version of iPhoto until now. Its loss is such baffling and hostile design choice that I will never consider buying another version of iPhoto. This was my last. I have been disappointed too many times, and this is just beyond the pale.

I went to the Apple Store on 5th Ave.,NYC. about the loss of Keywords under the thumbnails. The Iphoto guy basically stated that is the way it is. I explained how I lost functionality and he showed me the side information bar and I told him, I know about the side bar which takes up 1/4 the viewing area and does not solve the problem of key words. He sort of laughed and explained such is life (slight joke I guess). I asked if I could go back to Iphoto 9. He said I would have to clean my mac and then reload everything I just could not dump Iphoto 11. They messed up and did not tell us about the change and we are stuck. I must say it was wrong to not state what they were taking away or at least give us a path back to Iphoto 9.

After waiting for a month for Apple to fix this BUG, I gave up.

It was bad enough losing my favorite plug-in (Bullstorm's Keyword Manager), but this BUG not being addressed in the first month of the release (and there's been a bug fix release already), it just unmanageable.

I found this:

http://appletoolbox.com/2010/10/how-to-downgrade-iphoto-11-to-iphoto-09/

Which was a good safe way to get my iPhoto '09 restored properly without losing my work from before. I had to re upload images that I had pulled into iphoto '11 and add the keywords back into it, but it worked well.

As an FYI, the keyword manager plugin still thought I had iPhoto '11 when I ran it initially. Rebooted and all was well.

Shame Apple, Shame.

I'm understanding that keywords seem to be a problem for some people. I've heard of others asking how to uninstall iphoto 11. Before i move from 09 to 11 I was wondering if iphoto 11 loses some of the functionality of 09 or if its just a matter of learning where things are now located. I'm also wondering if anyone finds the added features helpful. Apparently these questions are inappropriate on these forums since my last post was removed by the host. I hope this post is less controversial! 🙂

thanks

Hello Dale,

Good question. Personally, overall, I really like iPhoto 11. I think it has some very nice features and great enhancements. I do not regret the upgrade at all. I love that it plays movies within iPhoto now, rather than opening a QT movie in the QT app. That is just one of many improvements. I am a little saddened by the removal of the Key Words from under the pictures - but I gotta believe that is a bug that will get fixed one day. I hope. If not... oh well, I can work around that. Key Words still work great for making smart albums and such. I am also a little sad about the loss of rotate button and merge event button/split even button. I think Apple is insane for removing those, but you can still use keyboard short cuts and menus. But again, overall - a great upgrade!

As a person that went through the hassle of downgrading back to '09 from '11, I will say that it is NOT worth the money or the hassle.

Way too many lost features and value for the minor add-ons.

Playing videos - ehhh.
Full Screen Mode - Ehhh..
I like the tracking of sharing images and the integration with social media (that's better)

But the loss of keyword management (and the loss of the Bullstorm Keyword Manager tool that I love) and the way it shows data is simply weak..

I am back in iPhoto '09 and very happy. I still have iMovie '11 running (which I do like). Once Apple FIXES the BUGS, I'll reupgrade back.
Keywords is mna

I agree, they completely dropped the ball with keywords and I hope they have enough sense to bring these features back - either preset or as options.

At this moment I'm considering downgrading to '09 because of this (and the lost ability to scale up small photos in detail views). Keywords are the best way to span Events. We need to be able to see them and apply them to files in thumbnail view.

Very annoying. This is clearly and obviously a BUG.

Keyword is an option on the VIEW panel (together with Titles and Ratings). So if there is the option and you cannot see the keywords is absolutely a bug. I am wondering way Apple guys are saying ''this is the way it is''.

I have provided several times a feedback on this bug.

One question: Apple engineers before releasing softwares are they testing it ......???
