GarageBand Help is Missing

Just a blank page opens, no way to access contents that I can find. No tutorials or Getting Started either that is evident, even though the opening info dialog indicates one exists.

MacBook Pro, Mac OS X (10.6.4)

I just fixed this issue by disabeling the proxy in my general network settings. I use a payed subscription to a proxy to filter out internet content, that is not family friendly. However apparantly the garageband help and lessons are blocked by the proxy as unsafe.

When I'm done downloading I will enable the proxy. When I want to download stuff again I have to disable it again. It's a bit of a hassle, but at least I got it to work now!

My issues:
No welcome screen . The welcome screen stated I had no internet connection (while I obviously had one in e.g. Firefox)
No help pages
Could not acces lessons store.

I do not have such a proxy. I have a Time Capsul connected to my ADSL modem. Hopfully the Time Capsul will not block the help from downloading 🙂

Feb, 21, 2011: Just downloaded GB11 from the App Store and had the same problem.
Deleting the preferences as noted above solved it.

I'm surprised Apple hasn't been able to fix this yet.

Hello William,

I am a newbie. I have the same problem with NO GarageBand Help. But when I looked in the location you mentioned, I could not find ANY of those files;

com.apple.help.plist

com.apple.helpui.plist

com.apple.helpviewer.plist

BTW, my Library directory appears not under Users/me/ but directly under MacintoshHD. Could that be part of the problem?

Dennis,

is your MacOS version 10.7.3? Then your User Library is hidden by default.

Macintaosh HD -> Library is the system library, and that is not hidden, but to see your user Library use the main Finder menu bar and select the "Go" menu item, while holding down the option (or alt) key, until you see the Library in the drop-down menu. Click this to open your user library in the Finder. You may want to drag this folder to the Finder sidebar for easy access.

Today I went to the Genius Bar and they solved my problem. It was simply a matter of getting the latest REV of garageband into my iBook.

Everything is rosy again.... ;>)
