iLife '11 failed installation

I just bought iLife '11 and been having issues installing it. I go through the process and it gets about 1/4 to 1/2 way complete and then it fails. It states that the installation has failed and to contact the software manufacturer. I have rebooted and tried multiple times and have the same issue.

What can I do to fix the issue?

Macbook C2D 2.2, Mac OS X (10.6.4)

Josh,

Did you delete all the files like I was told to do, and did the installation work having done so, for, if you can get it to install, then this just about proves my theory, and will then save many people a lot of time.

This does not exonerate Apple from doing the job properly, and they should create new installation disks with options for people in our situation.

Hi, sorry to bother you, you seem to have had exactly the same prob as myself.
I installed ilife 11 over 09, (i am using snow leopard) and then when i reopened iphoto's it was completely empty! i felt sick as it has photos from years ago and is of my son etc etc. SO, i do have back ups on time machine, however when i go into time machine, i cant find the iphoto library, so i am now scared it was somehow deleted.
I am planning to go back to 09 and reinstall,- is there any thing else you can tell me that might help me solve this, as i am so scared of doing something wrong and losing my photos forever.
or could you send me an idiots guide to how i uninstall iphotos - or do i have to uninstall all apps then re install 09????

any help would be so appreciated.

thank you

Kris

So far I have had no luck getting iLife installed. SL with iLife '09 installed (upgraded from iLife '08)

So far I have done the following with no luck

1) Repaired disk permissions
2) Trying installing in Safe Mode
3) Uninstalled all iLife Applications and deleted all of the iLife entries pkg in HD/Library/Receipts folder
4) Custom install of individual iLife Applications

None of the above worked.

I am going to resort in trying to reinstall ILife '08 from my original MAc CD's and upgrade from there. After that I have no idea what else to do other than call Apple support.

This is simply ridiculous...

Ok more failure stories....

5) Reinstalled iLife 08 and install iLife 11 on top of that (no luck)
6) Reinstalled iLife 09 and install iLife 11 on top of that (still no dice)
7) Called Apple support, they suggested creating a new Admin account of my machine and attempt to install iLife 11 using that account. If that doesn't work take a screen capture of the message and call them back.

I am at the last step so far and it's still installing.

I'll post an update when its done (one way or another)

Well the disk image failed. "Unable to create (input/output error).

I am starting to think it's a bad DVD.

Here is the errors I am getting when I look at the Console install log:

I finally went to the Apple Store Genius Bar and when they popped the disk out of my drive it had a LOT of cocentric scoring on its surface. At first they thought it might have been from my drive. So they popped a blank disk in there but it came out just fine. Then they popped in another iLife disk and it installed perfectly. So, while its possible that my drive damaged the disk (BTW - their iLife disk came out just fine after it installed) it my have been shipped that way and I just didn't notice.

So, my advice to you guys is to pop out the disk and take a good look at it. Maybe there have just been some bad disks that have shipped out. Like I said, it installed perfectly with another disk (which they gave me).

Problem solved!
