SPSS released a patch. It requires using terminal to update a file in the SPSS library, but the readme file is well written (with one exception, clarification below). Roughly, this is what you need to do:
1. Go to
http://support.spss.com/ If you are an SPSS user, you should register if you haven't done so already. For some reason, you can't download patches and upgrades unless you are registered. If you already did, just log in.
2. On the Main Menu navigation menu (left-hand side), click on Statistics, then on Patches.
3. *If you haven't installed the 18.0.3 patch, download it and _install it first_.*
4. Get the 18.0.3.4 Hotfix.
5. This "Hotfix" is simply a new file libspssjvm.dylib that must replace the old one. Follow the instructions in the readme file, but pay attention to step (6), where it says to enter:
$ sudo cp -p (path where you saved the new libspssjvm.dylib)/libspssjvm.dylib .
*Ignore their example*, it has an unnecessary "Macintosh HD" in the path. If you downloaded the patch, your browser probably saved it on the Desktop or in the Downloads folder. If you have done nothing to the downloaded folder, this is probably what you need to enter:
$ sudo cp -p "/Users/yourusername/Desktop/IBM SPSS Statistics 18/libspssjvm.dylib" .
Just change "yourusername" to your actual user name and "Desktop" to "Downloads" (if necessary). It is very important that you do not change anything else to the line above, it should include the quotation marks and the dot at the end of the line.
It worked for me, it should work for you.
