iPod Touch 4G connection probs w/security on Belkin router

My wife and I just purchased two new iPod Touch 4Gs. For what it's worth, mine was from an Apple store and hers was from Apple.com (direct shipped from China). So, the serial numbers are not even close to sequential.

I have a Belkin F5D8235-4 v2000 (N+) router with the most current firmware (2.01.08).

Both devices have problems maintaining a wireless connection to the Internet when WPA-PSK security is enabled. It happens almost always when coming out of standby and sometimes just when using the iTouches. I simply lose connection to the Internet. Both devices still show a good connection to the router, but Safari, Email...nothing works. A quick turning off and back on of the wireless on the iTouch fixes the problem. Turning on and off airplane mode also fixes it. It also seems that if I simply go look at the details of the wireless connection (screen with the IP details), that it also comes back. And a power off-on also fixes it.

I've power-cycled the router several times. I've reset the network settings on the iTouches and power cycled each several times. Nothing worked until I disabled security (WPA-PSK). Since then, I've had no problems.

The Belkin router has been working well for nearly two years. My iPod Touch 1G has no problems. Same with my XBox 360 running wireless and two HP laptops with different OSes. Hoping someone here can offer some advice. I don't want to leave security turned off on my router simply to have my new iPod Touches work without problems. Any help is greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
Charles

I have the same router, and an iTouch 3G, and now a new iPad, and have been having this EXACT same issue since I've plugged the router in. This problem does NOT happen on other networks, and even different Belkin routers work fine, with no issues of having to reset my iPod/iPad connections every few minutes!

My son's iTouch 2G works fine, too, so it's just the newest iPhone/Touch/Pads (3rd gen+), with this particular Belkin N+ router that have issues. It seems to be ALL on Belkin's side, and they need to fix this - does anyone know if they ARE working on it?

Okay. I updated the N+ to the latest firmware (2.01.08). I then created a static DHCP address for both MAC addresses for the iTouch 3G and the iPad, on the N+ router, and then on both of those devices, set their IP addresses to be "STATIC", for my SSID, entering the same info that was given by the DHCP settings.

I was just able to confirm that the iTouch 2G still works fine. The iTouch 3G and the iPad STILL have the same problem of having to turn the network off/on to get it connected back to the Internet. <sigh>

I was hoping, from reading some of these other previous posts, that this would be a temporary fix, but alas, no dice...

Anyone else come up with a fix that doesn't involve going backward to WEP??

Hello,

Same problem here but with an iPod touch 2G running 4.1. Tried 4.2 but that made my iPod very sluggish. Router is a Linksys which works fine and dandy with my Palm phone and friends Windows laptops. Which leads me to think that this Is an Apple WIFI issue.

Thinking back to the good old days, I dont think iPod Touch Firmware V3.0 had issues. ( +Scratches head+ )

Another one with the same router and the same issue. I consistently had problems with WPA on an iPhone 3G, an old PowerBook G4, and an iPhone 3GS. I had it on WEP for around a year with nary an issue.

On Monday I got an iMac to replace the PowerBook and noticed through Network Utility that the wireless connection was only 54 Mbps (which I believe is 802.11g). A bit of web searching revealed that the draft 802.11n protocol on this router is only supported with WPA2. So changed things over and lo and behold better (but not great) connection speed of 110 Mbps. But now the iMac drops connections after a few hours. I haven't yet noted it with the iPhone but I expect it will be the same. Again, firmware is current, tried static IPs, etc. There was some rumor that it may work better if locked to 802.11n instead of a&b&g&n. I'll try that tonite and let you know if it works.

I have the same issue. Contacted Belkin, they didn't answer when asked if they were aware of the issue. All they said was that there are no plans for further development on F5D8235, and that they have not seen this issue on newer routers.

I also tried switching my wife's iPod Touch (4G) to a static IP and that seems to have worked around the problem so far. I have now let it go to sleep and come back up 3 times and each time I can use the network. The last time my mom was over with her iPad, I couldn't get it to connect at all, so we'll see if I can get it to connect using a static IP. Or I'll just return the router and get a different router.

After months of frustration, I believe I have figured it out. Both my wife and I have a 3GS and only on our home network with the previously mentioned Belkin router, and we were having the same issues; the phone would connect to the wifi, and after a short while or after a timeout, the phones wouldn't reconnect to the network, even though they showed connected to the wifi.

This issue ONLY happened on our home network, and since I'm on the road 2-3 weeks a month, I've had plenty of opportunity to use many wifi networks every month, and never had a problem with any of them.

So, I hate to jump the gun, but it's been 4 hours and multiple timeouts with the phones, but I haven't had to reset either of our wifi connections... here's what I did.

-forget my network, deleting the wifi account from the phone(I'll reconnect later)

-log into my Belkin router by the ip 192.168.1.1

-go to the tab: DHCP client list

- entered the specific MAC address of both phones into the 'reserved ip' section of that page, and assigned a specific ip address for each phone.

-'apply settings', which resets the router. sometimes I had to unplug my hardware(router, modem, etc) to reconnect properly

-using the phones, log back into the wifi account and confirm the new ip addresses are as I set before.

-that's it!

Now, if it turns out tomorrow that this didn't actually work, my next attemp will be to use the "MAC Address Control" section in my router, where I'll have to enter every device's MAC address in my house that uses the network... I think that will do the trick as well.

Hope this helps, good luck!
