Having troubles with the Instant On-feature.

I bought the new Macbook Air (13", 1.86Ghz, 256GB) this weekend and I am having troubles with the instan on feature.

The problem is that when the lid has been closed, without the computer turned off, and then opened it happens that it won't get out off sleep mode. The computer stays in sleep mode even when the lid is up. It does not matter if I press any buttons it won't turn on. I have to hold down the power button until it turns off then reboot it.

This has happened a lot, out of the approximate 20 times I have closed it this has happened about three or four times.

One time when I opened the lid the screen turned on but it was completely fixed and I could not move the mouse or use the keyboard.

When I have rebooted the system I get the message saying that it was turned off due to implications and I have the option to report the problem which I have done.

What should I do now? Should I return it to the store where I got it or should I wait and see what happens?

Thanks in advance.

I would take it back to the Apple Store (consider calling ahead and making an appointment with a 'Genius')

i dont think its that widespread, ive had two in the last week or so and both worked fine, the one im typing on now has been running constantly for 6 days,as well as been taken out with me,and its great, not a problem at all,so its isolated, just get a new one a swap over,im sure you can, apple are good like that,or hassle the store you bought from,go to apple first, and get them to sign statement that it was doa, then take it to store u bought, demand a new one.

Quick update,

The Apple tech-guy told me to do a reinstall of the system, I did as told, nothing changed.

Went back to the store and received a new one directly, this one has the same issue. What are the odds.

Don't know what to do since nothing seems to solve my problem. Beginning to dislike having to reinstall everything over and over again. Shouldn't be this hard.

Even though I feel for you guys with the same problem it makes me happy knowing that I am not alone, thinking about returning this one tomorrow for an exchange as well.

Feeling lucky, not so much. I am beginning to have second thoughts about this purchase. Bought a computer for $1600 shouldn't have these problems, twice.

Shape up.

Bah.

I had similar problems as those described. Used the new 13" closed with a cinema display and bluetooth magic mouse and apple keyboard. If I unplugged from the monitor and shut down the power on the bluetooth peripherals the machine locked up the keyboard and mouse upon wakeup and I had to hold down the power button and reset.

I found that as long as I turn off the bluetooth peripherals first and see confirmation on the screen and then unplug from the cinema display I don't have any more problems.

Try resetting the PRAM and SMC. Worked for me.

Same issue here with a 13 inch air…

I’ve had my new air for about 3 weeks.

When I close the lid and it would seem and re-change the unit, about 40% of the time when I open the lid nothing happens at all. The Air is unusually warm, considering it’s been off for several hours.

The only way to turn the unit on is to press and HOLD the power button. The machine turns on and generates a crash report which I send to Apple.

It’s happening about twice a week and only when I am re-charging (I think). I charge the air about 3 times a week.

This is my problem when I wake up my MBA from long periods of sleep. I would have to close the lid and open it again for the trackpad to function properly. I'm not entirely sure what the problem is but hope that Apple comes up with an update or something that fixes it, assuming that it is a software issue.

Do you mean when it's hooked up to a power cord or on battery? It may be that you have some power/battery saving features set under your preferences that cause this. You may be able to go into System preferences and change this. I have a MBP, don't have a MBA so not sure where it would be under your preferences, but you should be able to see it under preferences or you can check the online user manual at Apple/support.
