will we ever get a "numbers" row on the virtual keyboard?

I have sent feedback to Apple, and have heard nothing. I have called Apple and was told to leave "feedback".
Is it just me, or does it seem silly to have to type twice as many characters just to enter a password because Apple didn't include numbers on the keyboard.
An eight digit password now takes 12 keystrokes as one must keep turning on and off the numbers row.
Am I missing something?

pc, iOS 4, mac when needed

still waiting for left and right arrow keys, and a proper delete/backspace combo. Apple devotees settle for SO little.
🙂

It just numbs my brain, also. For casual use, I use the virtual keyboard and the last thing that I want is a size reduction to accommodate numbers and/or arrow keys. When I really need a real keyboard, I use my ZAGGmate with KB. In both either case, I have exactly what I want.

Why do you need arrow keys? They exsist on hardware keyboards as a legacy control for the onscreen cursor on desktop computers, the arrival of the mouse started the clock on their obselesance, on a touch-capable device like the iPad there's not even the pretense of a need for them.

Seriously, why would you want to keep pressing an virtual button on an onscreen keyboard when a single tap of the screen will place the cursor (insofar as it even exists on the iPad) wherever you want it?

what amazes me here, on this board, is that the consensus is it would be bad for Apple to give users the OPTiON to CHOOSE what kind of virtual keyboard they wanted to use. Hmmm, let me think, you could call it an, ah, app. Yeah, that's it, an app. And we can charge $2.99 for it.
As far as "placing" your finger and "tapping", I find it clumsy and time consuming.
As far as using external keyboards, well now you're describing a net book.
What's the big deal to offer different virtual keyboards for all those users who like to "think different"?
I was in the Apple store before Xmas, and all the employees were wearing the same color shirt - BLUE.
As in BIG BLUE.
Meet the new boss, same as the old boss.
And yes, I have sent the suggestion thru Apple's seemingly pointless feedback link.

Lol I guess I'm the only one who wants something different 🙂

Why do you think it is pointless?
Simply because you send a suggestion and it is not implemented (immediately)?
It may seem "simple" but there are many, many things to consider when deciding what will go into a new software version.
Lol I guess I'm the only one who wants something different

I think it would be useful.

What amazes me is the number of people who seem to feel it their right to be presented with an infinitely customizable operating system, who classify anything not resulting in instant gratification as pointless, and who believe that their desire to "think different" can be accommodated without imposing any costs upon others.

Continued griping about this nitnoi in these forums is pointlessly beating a dead horse, and I for one will waste no further time on it.

Grow up, move on, satisfy your arrow fetish in some other way.

That's the second time you've come to the conclusion that, because no one is jumping on your bandwagon, they object to the notion of an option. It's just that no one who has replied seems to agree with you that it's an important issue. And certainly, no one else views it as a matter of cultural oppression.

I think the option of having various virtual keyboard is fantastic, so I agree with TVmaster completely. But I found in the world of Apple, the company constantly thinks it knows what's best for EVERYBODY, so it consistently shoves only one solution down our throats. And too many of the Apple minions, as shown here in the replies, simply cop an attitude of arrogant distain for everyone and anything that doesn't pay homage to Apple and its narrow-minded solutions. Which is precisely why we have this keyboard issue problem. It's also why… (1) Apple has such a small share of the market compared to PCs… (2) it almost went out of business in the late 1990s and had to be saved by Microsoft… (3) its products are best suited for children, artists and the simpleminded. For serious work, it's methods and processes are just too cumbersome and restrictive.

For TVmaster, you and I are not alone. The prestigious CNET says this about the iPad keyboard… "The default keyboard on the iPhone or iPad leaves much to be desired. Without arrow keys; symbols one, two, and even sometimes three menus deep, and complicated multi-touch commands to access copy-and-paste menus, it is not ideal if you plan on doing a lot of composition on the touch screen. There are many solutions, but Arrow Note offers one of the better compilations of keyboard modifications for writing on your phone or tablet." You can read the article yourself here… http://download.cnet.com/Arrow-Note-Text-Editor-with-Arrow-Keys/3000-2124_4-7564 2465.html

And you can get the arrow note app from the iPad app store. It's pretty cool, and something that Apple should've done in the first place.

will we ever get a "numbers" row on the virtual keyboard?
