Same problem over here. Three weeks old MBA 2010 model not waking up from sleep like it should. The MBA boots itself instead (loosing the data in all my opened programs).

I installed and use Chrome (10.0.648.151) now, and the problem got less frequent (once every three times, instead of twice every three times).

    I have Flash installed.
I do not use dual boot.
I do not use time machine.
    I have Safari 5.04

Not being able to rely on sleep mode irritates me on an 1080 euro laptop.

Fortunately I like the rest of its performance and looks (and the 15sec boot sequence), so I tend to keep it, but I'd be glad if Apple fixes this problem. Noblesse oblige.

This is a once in a while thing for most everyone here. If you're experiencing the wake from sleep issue daily there is something else wrong. You need to contact Apple or take it into one of their stores for a repair or exchange. Their support is actually extremely good by comparison to any other computer manufacturer (or any other company for that matter!).

Best of luck and let us know how things go.

Try updating to the new patch (10.6.7 I believe). My air would wake, but only with a black screen and the mouse arrow. The latest OS patch seems to have resolved this issue for me.

I had the *does not wake from sleep as well as does not got to sleep problems* I called AppleCare and was referred to a senior adviser who told me to go to the Apple store and they would exchange it for a new one.
After a few weeks -- guess what, same problem. I also have occasional kernel panics. I read somewhere that Flash was causing the problem so I installed a program called ClicktoFlash. This intercepts all Flash content and will only play if you click on the Flash window.
Since then I have not had any problems. To test the theory that Flash is causing the issues, I disabled ClicktoFlash and within a few days the problems had returned. Since turning ClicktoFlash back on a month ago I have not had any problems.
I still have the senior AppleCare advisors direct line so I think I will call him to let him know what causes the problem.

I absolutely 100% guarantee you, the problem is Safari.

The solution is VERY simple, STOP using Safari and download Chrome. It's a beautiful browser and resolves the issue 100%.

I'm on to my second Macbook Air and both had the same issue. It's a beautiful laptop and I certainly won't let Safari spoil it.

Go get Chrome and be done with the wake issue once and for all

Although I've only had the problem sporadically, with and without Safari being open...and I don't have Flash installed at all...I think I'll give Chrome a try anyway. Thanks for the tip!

BTW, do you have Flash installed? Just wondering if there are any issues with it running in Chrome and leaving it (Chrome on a website with Flash present) active when you put your MBA to sleep. I'd like to install Flash but I've been avoiding it until they get the wake from sleep issue fully cleared up.

As I said in my previous post, switching from Safari to Chrome did improve things but did not solve the issue. I would not get the issue every day but every three days. Blocking Flash in Chrome (with click to play) completely solved the issue five weeks ago. Ludwig70 is in a similar situation and people using Safari with Flash blocked also report complete success. So, in the end I believe Flash is causing the problem and that that problem is exacerbated at different levels by different browsers. To answer richsadams: using chrome and closing the lid with tabs including flash contents will increase the probability of occurrence of the issue. For me, it was clearly the case.

That may be true for you and many other folks, but Flash has nothing to do with it in my case...I don't have it installed and I still experience the wake from sleep issue periodically.

    Hi guys,

I have to put my two cents worth in...

I had several windows open in Safari and out of nowhere my screen went blank and I had to do a hard power off and on again. So without even closing the lid and putting my MBA to sleep I replicated the problem by accident.

I have since upgraded to 10.6.7 and Safari 5.0.4 so we'll monitor it and see how we go... mind you, I put up with it because it very rarely does happen to me now since I followed hiro's advise.

Good luck to all and hopefully as some people have put on this forum, maybe Lion will fix it

MBA kernel-panic-on-wake solved for me - replying to my own post. I finally got up the nerve to boot from that suspicious looking USB boot drive which comes with the air. Diskutil found a 1 FILE node count difference and fixed it. After that, problem solved. So glad it was not hardware/firmware after all.

Guess you can add me to this list of troubles. I have had my macbook for a month, I have experienced this issue six times. I have opened a case with Apple, they ran me thru the PRAM Reset and the SMC Reset. took four days for the issue to return. I called Support again, talked to a specialist who claims they know nothing of this issue. I explained the firmware fix that was released months ago just trying to have him admit they are aware of the issue, and nothing. This was all news to him. Either he's new or they are not willing to discuss this issue.

His next step for me is to delete all programs and re-install the OS, which from reading this thread and other threads I know will do me no good!

Told me if it failed again after that we could get engineering involved so they can look into it.

I have just set my Hibernate mode to 25. will go that route before going to 0.

if that fails I guess I have to keep with Apple support and re-image.

    This is Torture!!

The result first, it seems WIFI was the bad guy for me. I turn WIFI off before sleep, now always wakes up everytime (so far). I'll keep post here.

After installing OS 10.6.7 the problem seemed to be solved for a few days.
    I was very happy :-))))))

But after a few days it's back. :-((((

Weird, there seems to be a few days of incubation time (more users reporting that).

It seems to be less frequent though (before once a day, after the patch once every two days).

As said before: Chrome user, flash installed, no bootcamp.

    Problem description:
When I close the lid, my mba falls asleep. But when I reopen the lid, I see al little screen distortion for a fraction of a sec and then my mba reboots itself.

The problems arises both with Chrome opened when I close the lid, and without Chrome opened.

The problem seems to be to whidespread to be a hardware problem of just my mba (I am not keen to bring my mba back to the shop). I'll try the suggested 'diskutil check' and turning off Wifi.

I'll keep you posted. Thanx for your suggestions and reports.
