iPhoto 11 will not (won't) import photos

After upgrading to iPhoto 11 I cannot import photos using the usual methods.
I have tried importing via ImageCapture app (my usual choice). When that did not work, I tried dragging the files from my camera media to iPhoto. When that did not work, I copied the files to my desktop and then tried dragging to iPhoto. When that did not work, I used the iPhoto command: Import to Library.

Nothing seems to work. No new pictures can be added to iPhoto via any method that worked previously. I have tried relaunching iPhoto, rebuilding iPhoto but the results are the same. No new photos or events...

Another weird anomaly is that my camera's CF memory card shows (0) photos in the iPhoto listing, but if I open it in finder or ImageBrowser, I can see all the files there ok.

Pretty weird. After backing up my iPhoto library, the install, upgrade and conversion to iPhoto 11 seemed to go fine. Only now, the library is pretty much unable to be added to.

Any ideas?
Thanks!
Steve

I am having a problem importing pics since upgrading to iPhoto 11. I import and all looks normal until I try to open the event and there are no photos. when I close iphoto and return the event itself disapears. I have lost hundreds of pictures. Are they now gone forever gone? Frustrating! iphoto was more dependable in last version. Any solutions yet?

That's a damaged database file.

Option 1

Back Up and try rebuild the library: hold down the command and option (or alt) keys while launching iPhoto. Use the resulting dialogue to rebuild. Choose to Rebuild iPhoto Library Database from automatic backup.

If that fails:

Option 2

Download iPhoto Library Manager and use its rebuild function. This will create a new library based on data in the albumdata.xml file. Not everything will be brought over - no slideshows, books or calendars, for instance - but it should get all your albums and keywords back.

Because this process creates an entirely new library and leaves your old one untouched, it is non-destructive, and if you're not happy with the results you can simply return to your old one. .

Hi

I too have this problem. It simply won't import, from any source or method. So far I have:

a) Opened with 'alt' pressed - created new library - crashes on import

b) Opened with 'alt+cmd' pressed - ticked the relevant rebuild, permissions, etc boxes - crashes on import

c) Connected to PhotoStream - crashes on import from this

d) Downloaded iPLM - created new library - failed on import of first item into iPhoto - crashed

e) Used Image Capture to grab images from phone - to iPhoto.app - crashed on import

f) Used Image Captrue to grab images from phone - to hard drive - tried to import directly from iPhoto - crashed on import

g) Deleted app completely (three times) downloaded it again, same problems as above

e) Downloaded BatChmod - changed all setting to 777 (access all) - tried to import one photo - crashed on import

So... what next? Any suggestions?
