DIY may be able to fix this. I've linked the source. I can't see on what basis you might state the opposite...
To speak of "complaining" - is a creative reimagining of what goes on in this thread, which is raising awareness for a persisting, major problem in the new Macbook AIrs design.

As of the the other point you raise, I will get my Macbook looked at, not at a Genius Bar, as there are no Apple stores in this country, only certified service centers - but after the holidays, as I need my Macbook as a productivity environment right now. So its another couple of teeth clenching days until I can report back on whether the problem could be fixed by replacing the fan.

As for the "too sensitive" part you bring up, I've had other business laptops, none of them had a fan sound profile that was as annoying as the Macbook Airs. Its the hardware. No question about it.

May I suggest that taking apart a new machine and carrying out some DIY might invalidate your warranty.

Again, if it is that loud then there is a problem. It has a warranty. That's what a warranty is for.

If you bought a new car and the engine was making a funny noise would you start to carry out some DIY on the engine, or get the dealer to fix it?

Your choice of course, but don't be surprised if when you finally take in for replacement under warranty Apple decline to help as you have been carrying out some DIY.

Hi All

There's a simple solution to this, if you know about the inside of a computer. DO NOT follow these instructions if you don't feel comfy working 'inisde' a computer.

So I have the same issue with 13" MBA. After about one week of working with the new Air, hizzing sound comes from the back left side of the Keyboard. I use iStatPro and theres a correlation between the hizzing sounds noise level and the fan rmp. Ok, it is also not normal, as I did some video editing on it in the week it still sounded normal, the fans went up all the way to 6500rpm without the ticking sound.

*The only way to fix it yourself it to open up the machine with the special screwdriver, lift the fan out, clean it with air pressure, put a small amount of machine oil on it, and put your MBA back together.*

Of course, this can void warranty, and you should not do this if you haven't done this before.

The cause of this issue has to to with fine dust or small pieces of hair being sucked inside the MBA via the keyboard or the right back side of the keyboard, which eventually get's stuck in the fan.

This is the screwdriver you need: http://www.ifixit.com/Tools/MacBook-Air-5-Point-Screwdriver/IF145-090

Hope this helps

Love
Julez

Again, it is not an hardware problem. Therefore, an exchange or a repair by Apple staff won't resolve the problem because this noise seems to come from the conception of the MBA.
