My new iphone 4 will not rotate to landscape mode anymore!

Dear All,

I have been using my new iphone 4 for more than 1 month without any problems at all. Since Saturday morning, though, I have been experiencing this issue: my iphone does not rotate its screen anymore, basically the display does not go into landscape mode anymore. This issue happens with any application (pictures, safari, or ipod).
I would like to let you know that I tried the following:

1)Turning off and on my iphone several times
2)"Reset All Settings" from the Settings>General>Reset menu
3)Checking the “rotation lock” button and it is off (unlocked)
4)Testing the calculator application and only the standard calculator will appear, by rotating the iphone to landscape mode the scientific calculator will not appear.

I am thinking the accelerometer might be broken. By the way, it has never fallen to ground or anything similar.

I would appreciate if someone could help me out as I am very struggling with it!

I also fixed mine with the rotate lock thing (picture of lock in a circle near battery meter) but can anyone tell me how i might have locked it as i have never been on the bottom bar of the home screen (i didnt even know you could double click it !)

So how on earth did i manage to lock it ?#Cheers Darren

Thanks Kaz1...I apparently had locked the rotation screen and was not aware of it....thanks for saving me from a trip to the Apple Store!!

@ Gatekeeper...I have no idea how I locked mine...I was aware of the double click menu key capibility but I had never ever scrolled all the way to the right...

(you can also use this double click to turn off any running applications to save battery time/life by touching the icons in the bottom tray until they wiggle then deleting the icons you are not currently not using at the moment)

Thank you. The double click menu after hitting the home button and the rotation circle which was found after swiping the bottom to the right corrected my problem too. I had no idea it was even located in that area. I just thought that my phone was broken. I guess this just adds to the fun.

Dear paddymacwack, I was having trouble with my landscape and found your post, and thank you so much - now it is fixed. Apple wanted me to pay $29.00 for a one time service call to answer my question 😟. My phone isn't even a year old. I think that stinks that they charge for a simple question, and isn't it funny that they don't put the answers to these kind of questions anywhere on the interenet or in a manual. This is just another disturbing part of corportate America! So thank you for helping us out!!!! 🙂
