iPad Case Recommendations

Hi all,

I'm looking for an iPad case that will alow me to prop up the iPad for use in the kitchen, family room, etc. I don't intend to transport it outside, so hardcase options like the Otterbox aren't necessary. I also read several somewhat negative reviews about Apple's iPad case, so I'd appreciate hearing from anyone who can recommend some decent options. Thanks, Don

I really like the Apple iPad case but you won't be able to park it in the Apple keboard dock with the case on and the case is difficult to remove. An option to taking the case off for docking is to buy a Cablejive dock extender cable and a Griffin A Stand and dock with the case on. You then have the the best of all worlds ... permanent case + stable docking.

a couple of things:

- for heavy use and often-moved in your house, esp. kitchen, i suggest getting the complete-coverage protection solution from zagg (google it). it's good stuff and will keep your precious ipad "armored" through use. (if you decide to get this solution, check out the youtube videos before applying it yourself -- very helpful to see how others do it, and the mistakes they make :-P)

- then for setting up to stand on its own, i suggest the apple ipad dock. it's simple and inexpensive (relatively :-P).

- optionally, you may want to add a shell on top of this. i suggest the speck candyshell ipad case (again google it), which comes in different colors. it is a simple solution to further protect the underside of your ipad, and it has a flip thingie in the back to accommodate the apple ipad dock when it's seated.

i personally have the zagg solution, the apple ipod dock and a bookbook case (you guessed it: google it) by twelvesouth. the bookbook case is well-made, beautiful and practical (esp. deterrent for the sticky fingers of unscrupulous peeps). it's not necessarily a solution for your in-home heavy usage, but if you ever take it outside, you actually gain both prestige and smarts! (lol)

I infer that you do not want a case, but a stand. My son just got me a Belkin FlipBlade. It is a quality folding stand, albeit without the dock connection of the Apple stand. As such, it will support the ipad in landscape or portrait orientation. It is sturdy and with a nice dampened spring hinge. In landscape orientation, the lid of my Otterbox Defender serves as a stand. Unfortunately, Otterbox did not design the lid to serve as a stand the other way. The FlipBlade holds the Defender-clad ipad nicely in portrait mode IF I remove the dock access port from the Defender. The folded FlipBlade is stored easily in the manbag sort of thing I use to carry the ipad.
