Ipod Not Charging

My Ipod Touch 8GB 3rd generation is not charging or connecting to ITunes when I put it in the USB port. How can I fix this? Thanks.

my 2nd gen touch will not restore and shuts itself off when i tried to restore about 10 times today alone.
Apple should put out a fix for this crap. It is very frustrating to spend hard earned money for this inferior product, and if they won't or can't fix it we should all get a refund, oh wait they are too busy laughing at us to care about customer satisfaction

I recovered the 8 GB one earlier today, and it also previously didn't appear to be charging. It would display either the apple or the charging needed image. I had charged it over night (it still didn't say it was charging), and had to power it off in the morning by holding the standby and home buttons until the screen turned off, but not so long that it rebooted.

This morning, I recovered it, and it worked almost as the instructions said. I plugged the cable into my computer, held the home button, and plugged in the iPod. First the apple appeared, then after a while the recovery image appeared (the one you would see when first initializing the iPod after purchase with the usb cable and arrow as seen in the directions. However, at this point there was some divergence, possibly because this wasn't the machine used to originally set up the iPod, after clicking restore in iTunes there was a restore and upgrade button, but no option to restore to its original firmware version. It took some time for the firmware update to download and, after a while, the iPod went back to displaying the apple logo. When the download finished, the iPod disappeared from iTunes. I unplugged the iPod and turned it back off as described above and held the home button while plugging it back into the computer. The restore worked and it is now running iOS 4.2.

I would plug in the iPod to the wall charger for something more than 10 minutes, unplug it. Connect the cable to your computer. Power down the iPod by holding the standby and home buttons until the screen goes blank and then let go of them. Wait a little while to be sure it's powered down, and then hold the home button and attach the cable that is hooked to your computer. Keep holding the home button and hopefully the recovery mode image will appear and you should be able to recover it. It should work something like mine did, although you shouldn't have the problem with the long download since the update is already downloaded.

Since you've used the iPod with this machine, you should eventually have the option to restore it from backup. Please post back, even if it works.

Hi grey bird,

Sorry for my late reply ..

I've tried your suggestion , and failed.. Means that I cant get my ipod to restore/recover.. My ipod only shows the low bat - need to recharge image, been plugging it for 20 minutes, doesn't move a bit .... sighs

I think the main reason is, the battery is empty, and I cant get it to recharge, that way I cant get enough power to connect to itunes.

IMO thats the reason why ..... I don't know yet, maybe I did get a defect goods or what.
Supposedly tomorrow I will go to an official apple store here, I'll post back what they'll say about this.

Thanks guys.
