Netflix error codes almost every time

I have been using my Apple TV to watch netflix for the past month and now it seems as though I cannot play some or most of my content because of a netflix error 111 or 112. Anyone else have this problem? Any ideas on how to fix it? I have tried unplugging the box, hasn't helped.

Thanks!

I have same problem -- can't connect to netflix using ATV. I've rebooted the ATV a dozen times without success. I can't update software because the ATV update software servers have been down for 2 weeks with no end in sight. Netflix and ATV tech advisors have no solutions. You seem to have one using your PC. Could I ask you to please slow down for us very non-techy types and take me through the steps you used step by step in detail to update ATV software to 4.2.2 from 4.1.1 using PC and mini-usb cable. Much thanks.

Met67 - If I may suggest, upgrading via Apple TV menu may be easier, than the multi-step PC process, that you're requesting.

Within the last couple weeks I also encountered the ". . . can't update software because the ATV update software servers have been down . . ." problem you mention, but this worked for me late Saturday evening, July 2. In fact, I was happy to see the update work, thinking that it may be possible resolution. And it was!

If you choose to use the ATV menus, select: Settings > General > Update Software and follow the prompts.

Good luck!

Okay

Here's what I did in detail.. good luck.

First you have to find a "micro-usb" cable, I mispoke its not a "mini-USB" there are three types; a full size USB, a mini-USB, and a micro-USB. This is definitely a "micro-USB"

I got mine by going to the local Apple store and purchasing a USB Mini-Cable kit by Griffin.

Inside is a kit of three short cables, USB Micro-B for cameras, mobile phones, smartphones; Dock cable for iPhone/iPod; USB Mini-B for cameras, drives, GPS, PDAs, media players.

The part number says H189ZM/A, the product SKU number is 0 85387 30415 6

Cost $24.95

I had the kit on hand because a lot of Android and iOS phones use them these days. So it just made sense to have them on hand.

After trying the reset from the Apple TV 2 menu and failing. I started thinking how to do a different kind of update. What's called a "recovery".

To do a recovery you unplug everything from the Apple TV 2, and plug it into your PC using a micro-USB cable.

One end of the micro-USB cable is a normal sized USB connector

Plug this into your PC

The other end is a tiny micro-USB connector plug this into the back of the Apple TV 2

Its hard to see the micro-USB port but it is right below the HDMI port

Then start iTunes and wait.. a good three or four minutes.

iTunes will detect the Apple TV 2 even though its only power source is the usb cable connecting it to your PC.

Then iTunes will pop up a new window that says something like "I see your Apple TV 2 would you like to recover?"

Click on yes and it will warn you about deleting your settings and stuff.. it's going to reset back to factory defaults.

Then iTunes progress bar will start claiming to download a new update for the Applet TV 2 and estimates about 8 minutes download.. let it finish this.. then it will restart the Apple TV 2 and begin updating it.. takes another 5-6 minutes.

It says something like "don't remove power from the Applet TV 2 while its being updated".

Be very very careful.. if you do remove power you "could" brick your Apple TV 2 and make it un-recoverable.

When its completely done

It will tell you to unplug the Apple TV 2 and plug it back into your TV.

Plug it back in and plug the power back in.

If you use wireless on your Apple TV 2 you'll have to setup your wireless again pick a wireless SSID and put the password back in.

I use a direct ethernet connection, so I didn't have to set up wireless again.

Once it comes back up, then you have to re-enter your iTunes username and password; and re-enter your Netflix username and password.

That's all that I did.

Replying to myself.....it turns out that those posters who had success in simply unplugging the iTV and plugging it back in were right. With iTV active and the television ON, just pull the power cord, count to ten, plug it back in and, voila!. You'll see the Apple Logo, then just navigate with the menu. When you choose Netflix, it sends you to it and it Will Play. One note: the Netflix page, etc. looks different than it did when it was not working...suggesting that when it rebooted, it installed the new "stuff" then, which made it work.
