I have this same issue with USB Hard drives... 10.6.5 (Normal and server) both seem to have messed with my machines ability to mount USB drives, these drives are in OS X format...

I'm downloading the combo update http://support.apple.com/kb/DL1324

However I'm a little hesitant to follow the detailed instructions here (I will if I have to)... I bought a Mac so I would not have to deal with this type of mess....

Anyone else have any success?

So after, following the posted instructions and rebooting, my trackpad and keyboard no longer work once I get to the login screen... And my USB ones don't either... Great! I can use my keyboard before os x loads, aka option key, entering password and choosing a boot device... But once os x loads I got nothing... Any ideas other than getting a new 2.5 hard drive installing 10.6.4 and transferring my files over USB? What a cluster.

I have just encountered this problem. I randomly have my USB hard drive and USB DVD burner unmount themselves. Console gives me the message that the IOUSBFamily is having trouble enumerating etc.

I am not sure if I want to have a go at extracting the USB files from the 10.6.4 update because I don't want to break the USB bus completely.

Has anyone here reported it as a bug to Apple?
