Always ask the question was this the Software Update or the Combo update? Some interesting problem are sorted out by going back and installing the Combo update, no harm done in this approach.
Might be worth looking at this old thread as well, and go from there:
This could be a different issue than the OP. If you installed the download software Update I would install the Combo update and see if this sorts out your problem. No harm done.
I have a likely problem here after updating to 10.6.5 from 10.6.4 our Philips Pocket Memo Dictation Devices are now longer mounted. The Audio part of the devices is shown in Sound prefs like in 10.6.4 and I can use them as in- or output device.
This is how i found to fix the no USB issue when updating to OSX 10.6.5.
1. download the OSX 10.6.4 combo update.
2. download Pacifist
3. download kext helper b7
4. Open The OSX 10.6.4 combo update with Pacifist
5. drag over the following files to the desktop, AppleUSBAudio.kext, AppleUSBMultitouch.kext, AppleUSBTopCase.kext, IOUSBFamily.kext, IOUSBMassStorageClass.kext, AppleUSBDisplays.kext.
I know you probably dont need all of these, but i downgraded all of these kexts and all seems to work fine.
6. open up Kext Helper b7 and drag all kext into the app, put in your password, all should be good.
7. reboot.
I had the same problem with a Medion 3320 GPS (Windows CE 5.0). Since I upgrade to 10.6.5, disk storage doesn't mount when connected with USB to my Mac.
Does anyone know how I can apply this fix to a desktop - without getting into OSX? Unfortunately, the USB works fine until OSX begins booting and then all USBs lose power. There is an error in my bootlog that points to a problem with IOUSBFamily
