Problem Importing CD to iTunes

Just updated to latest version of iTunes. Trying to import an audio cd to iTunes. iTunes will read the cd, and I can see the album & artist name under 'Devices' on the left side of the iTunes. iTunes will actually play the cd, but when I click 'Import CD', I immediately receive a message box that says "iTunes has stopped working. A problem has caused the program to stop working correctly. Windows will close the program and notify you if a solution is available." And then iTunes shuts down.

I'm slightly techno-tarded, and can't seem to figure out how to fix this so that I can import the cd to my iTunes. Can anyone help?

What's the easy, quick fix?

One reported workaround last night, but it isn't as convenient as it might be.

The problem lies with the CoreAudioToolbox.dll version 7.9.4.0 included in Apple Application support version 1.4. On 32-bit versions of Windows that lives in:

C:\Program Files\Common Files\Apple\Apple Application Support\CoreAudioToolbox.dll

On 64-bit versions of Windows it lives in:

C:\Program Files (x64)\Common Files\Apple\Apple Application Support\CoreAudioToolbox.dll

If you can track down a CoreAudioToolbox.dll version 7.9.3, included in Apple Application Support version 1.3.2 (like the one contained in the Safari 5.0.2 installer, or the iTunes 10.0.1.22 installer), and swap out your 7.9.4 version of the dll for the 7.9.3 version, you might well be able to start importing and connecting again.

Only tested so far on XP 32-bit systems. Credit to gduc for the suggestion and test:

is there anyone who is from apple that can actually deal with this

We're a user-to-user troubleshooting forum, brenda. See the following from the Help and Terms of use:

If you want to directly give a heads up to Apple (further than we've done so far), try submitting a bug report via the iTunes product feedback form. If they don't have iTunes 10.1.0.54 listed as an option on the form yet, pick the latest version number you can find and specify in your comments that you're talking about a problem with a version 10.1.0.54.
