Problem Importing CD to iTunes

Just updated to latest version of iTunes. Trying to import an audio cd to iTunes. iTunes will read the cd, and I can see the album & artist name under 'Devices' on the left side of the iTunes. iTunes will actually play the cd, but when I click 'Import CD', I immediately receive a message box that says "iTunes has stopped working. A problem has caused the program to stop working correctly. Windows will close the program and notify you if a solution is available." And then iTunes shuts down.

I'm slightly techno-tarded, and can't seem to figure out how to fix this so that I can import the cd to my iTunes. Can anyone help?

So if changing it to MP3 is working than it means there is something wrong with the AAC coding?

Either with the way the version 7.9.4.0 of CoreAudioToolbox.dll is handling the AAC encoding (on some systems) or the way that the dll is interacting with people's preference files on those systems seem the likeliest possibilities at this stage, lnk. (I've seen examples of both sorts of problems crop up for people ... troubles with preferences files and/or troubles with a new version of a dll ... after iTunes updates in the past.)

Hi All

Bit new to this Apple Discussion Forum.

Had the same issues as everyone else, seems that the only way round at this stage is changing to MP3 instead of AAC.

Not done this yet, but would prefer to stay with AAC as everything else in my Music Library is AAC.

If this is an issue with the latest version 10.1 of iTunes, will Apple release a further update with the problem resolved?

Is this likely to happen (soon)?
Should I wait or plough on with MP3 format?

Seems a bit of a Boo Boo by Apple to alienate so many users in 1 upgrade!
New to Apple and iTunes, does this sort of thing happen often?

Any thoughts or comments welcome (especially from Apple)

Cheers

Chris

If you want to try the importing preferences thing, Chris, as a temporary measure it might be worth changing your importing preferences to a lossless format like Apple Lossless or AIFF. Then when the bug is cleared up, you could convert those Lossless-encoded files to AAC without the risk of losing some sound quality (by moving from the lossy encoding MP3 to the lossy encoding AAC).

The downside of that option is that the lossless versions of tracks are going to be a heck of a lot bigger than the AAC versions (or the mp3 versions), which could potentially cause trouble with transfer to devices with limited storage space.

Hi

I'm having the exact same error message when I try and import CD's. I have followed the early instructions about checking the Action Centre in control panel but I can't find any reports of the errors.

I can't believe it, just bought an iPod Touch today and have downloaded iTunes only to find it's not working because I have Windows 7.

Any help would be great!

Thanks

To B noir and the other guy who briefly helped on this issue on my thread i'd like to say a massive thankyou....It took me half an hour to find this section, I think its a discrace for a company that is worth so much money that it will happily pass the buck to loyal customers and brand supporters that will lend their knowledge and expertise for pretty much no charge to other users, for them to have such a difficult meethod of customer supprt for such a broad range of products is shocking....i'd love to find the right avenues to vent my frustration but that seems impossible.....again big up to you guys that can lend a helping hand when the company itself seems like it cannot be arsed!

Thank you all for the "solution" which really isn't a solution but it worked. I had the exact same problem. I always hesitate when installing a newer version of iTunes when I have a current version that is working because of issues like this that crop up. I spent several hours, like most of you, trying to figure out why all of a sudden my itunes wasn't importing a CD but crashing instead. I uninstalled, reinstalled and even restored my PC to a previous working date. To no avail. What DID work was changing the import settings to MP3.... Thanks again and hopefully APPLE will fix the bug in the new version of the software.

Hi I'm having the same problem except I'm using Windows XP. I didn't have this problem using Itunes 9 but after I downloaded Itunes 10 it started crashing whenever I asked it to import a CD. I've tried running diagnostics (it said everything was fine with my CD drive) and I've tried uninstalling and reinstalling. I'm not sure what else to do. Any suggestions?

Thanks,

A

I am a technotard too. If I switch it to MP3 for importing instead of AAC, when a fix comes do I have to somehow convert all the albums I imported on MP3? Also, is there a difference in quality, file size, mixed files (mp3 and AAC) in the library? Thanks to all of you brainiacs for helping us technotards. I have spent about 5 hours uninstalling, reinstalling, restarting and all the other bs. You'd think a company like Apple could do an upgrade right!
