10.1 Update - Lost ability to view music videos on Mac

Since upgrading to 10.1 I have lost the ability to view videos i iTunes on my Mac - the Now Playing window just shows a static image. If I change the preferences to view the videos in another window or full screen, iTunes still just shows a static mage in the Now Playing window.

I know the videos are still there - I can download new ones to itunes, sync and then play them in my iPhone and iPad - and the video icon still appears next to those songs in iTunes, but will not play in iTunes.

My podcasts and movies are still playing fine in ITunes - it's just the music videos that appear in my Music Library which no longer work.

What do the ones that work have in common? Are they are the same hard drive... is there something else you can spot....

When you do a get info on the files, are the ones that work tagged differently under "Kind"?

The two I had which originally didn't work (Apple replaced the files - they were from the new Beatles box set) had a different "Kind" than all the others that wre working ( didn't say "Purchased" or Protected" as the others did...

Don't know if that's helpful to you or not??

duh... just went here and downloaded... all is working fine now... http://support.apple.com/kb/dl1056

i could care less about PING for now... remember to erase all and even your libraries or this will not work... get a app cleaner such as appcleaner and it will get everything related to itunes 10 except for the libraries where you can get in your music files.. not to worry though.. they will be rebuilt after iTunes restores all your tunes...

i do have all of my iTunes stored on 2 separate external 500gb hd's plus my classic ipod for videos and music. always updating them

hey pbwerk... that is strange... my Beatles box set worked but did not download all of the items per the count they posted... i called and the re-granted it to me after sending an email.. then i got an email a few days later saying they actually had a problem the day of release and they were going to re-grant me again the Beatles box set... though i never experienced any problems with video playback...

So far the best source of the problem seems to be a result of encryption and video cards. It has been discussed a bit on the thread located there:

In case that doesn't work here is the deal and it is really difficult to duplicate BUT if you are using a notebook computer with an external display disconnecting the display can get the videos to play SOMETIMES. I actually had a full go where everything was working (even on the external display) but as soon as I rebooted everything went back to the non-working way.

I don't have as many music videos as you do, probably only 15, but it is really irritating that it doesn't work. I am also concerned that if I downgraded until they fixed it that it would mess with my iPhone and iPad sync. I think you need the latest for that to work right.

That's exactly what's happening to me. After I initially upgraded and then had the problems with my Pod which has now been magically corrected. I see my videos on my PodT, but everything is black on my Book. I did not upgrade my MacMini and can see my Videos on my Cinema display just great. Don't want to update until I hear things are fixed.

Okay, that didn't work, still didn't like the music library (created by a newer version?), so went into Finder, iTunes, Previous Libraries ... chose the most recent library, pulled it out of there and put it one folder back, with the current library. re-opened iTunes and this time it really opened. Bad news is, the videos are still black.

Well, add me to the list of people whose older Music Videos wont display a picture when playing in iTunes. I'm using a Macbook Pro I bought in Jan 2009, with OSX 10.6.5 and they worked fine with iTunes 10.0.1

I am so disappointed with Apple because it seems to me that every time they release a new version of some app they fix some bugs but create several new ones.

I don't even know how to create a trouble ticket, so I'm off to try to figure that out now...
