iDVD hangs when burning project

In the past few months I've burned nearly 10 dvds all with the same results -- iDVD takes excessively long to fail to burn either a usable image or dvd. It ends by hanging ... forever. All the hardware and software are original. Is there a bug resulting from OS advances? Or iLife being too old?

powerbook g4, Mac OS X (10.6.5), iDVD (iLife) 9

I'm glad it worked for you, but that still doesn't mean I'd recommend anyone do this. A DVD cleaning disk is a much safer approach.

Anyway, I strongly suspect the problem is his TDK media.

If it were Memorex, I'd completely agree with you. Or if the TDK is rated below 4x which I don't think it is.

@Crooked6p .... this is what we'd be aiming for at 4-6 inches away. Dead center.

Btw, this is about the only thing I would recommend Memorex for on a G4 mac ....

Tried both Maxll and Verbatim from work ... same quick failure messages. So I switched to an external DVD burner. Old, but faster, connected through firewire. The original discs burned, not at 6x but 16x in the same time the failed discs left the fail messages.

Answer: it appears to be the drive not the software or the discs. Perhaps burn speed or perhaps damaged drive.

Hi

Yes TDK is non of my favourites either - BUT You might try to

• Set down Burn Speed to x4 or x1 and see if the resulting DVD plays.

Most often Burn Errors are the problem and High Burn Speed and Cheap DVDs result
in to many of them to be playable.
