iPad not charging via PC

Hi all,

I got my iPad a couple of days ago. When I connect it to the USB port on my PC it will sync with iTunes and do everything it's meant to. However at the top of the iPad it will say "Not Charging" next to the battery icon. It will charge when connected to the mains outlet but not via PC. The USB ports on my PC are 2.0. (MY iPhone charges fine when connected to these ports also)

Thanks in advance 🙂

Oh, old "contact us" forms. Unfortunately I work for the internet and I know how useful they are

You work for "the internet"?

Really? What's their address?

I know how useful they are.

Sarcasm? Then you know know very little.

They have a quality control and this is where they get most feedback

Feedback link above has more influence on changes.

Most of the info they get here is for problems/errors, not complaints about adding/removing/changing features.

This is a really helpful point. I did have a quick question for you since you seemed to really understand this point that a lot of people are having issues with. I understood that my iPad was having this issue although this didn't use to be the case. I am assuming becuase my iPad is probably about 2 years old that this just started to occur.

I used to be able to use my iPad as it was plugged in and it would charge just fine but that is no longer the case. I know that this is most likely just an age issue now. But since so many people are having the "not charging" message pop up, I thought I would question this too. Even though it will charge in sleep mode, this sounds like most people are only having this issue when connected via PC/USB. But mine still says this while plugged into my iPads wall charger as well. Is this also normal? It also seems to take much longer to charge too. (I am sure this could be an age issue as well, but if not I wanted to see other peoples reports).

Today was the same, but while at work, I decided to move my iPad (using the same charger cord) from my work computers PC (which indicated "not charging") to my personal laptop, a Mac and for some reason now it no longer says "not charging" even when I turn it on. It is even charging faster. So could this be a computer issue, a charger issue, or a iPad issue? I am just curious if you've run into similar comments.

Sadly I can understand this feeling. I search for many answers online for help solving electronic and other problems, and sometimes you find great help, but othertimes you run into what I like to call "arguement streams". Sometimes the initial question or issue no longer exists and only fights between people entangle. I saw one that went on for pages before and sadly... they never did answer the question many were searching for.

But I think most people are just wondering the same thing in this string of questions... "Is it just me or is this happening to other people too?" Especially if this is a new issue that arose after a long period of owning an older item. If this is something new for newer items I can understand it to be a more frustrating subject matter.

As previously explained it will actually charge (if idle) and slightly discharge (in use). The best way to check is to download Coconut Battery, connect iPad to Mac (or PC) and run Coconut Battery. I am presently connected and showing Charging (at 2.1 Watt).

Apple could use the same technology to present IOS users with accurate data.

Hope this helps you - Cheers from OZ (Australia)
