iPad not charging via PC

Hi all,

I got my iPad a couple of days ago. When I connect it to the USB port on my PC it will sync with iTunes and do everything it's meant to. However at the top of the iPad it will say "Not Charging" next to the battery icon. It will charge when connected to the mains outlet but not via PC. The USB ports on my PC are 2.0. (MY iPhone charges fine when connected to these ports also)

Thanks in advance 🙂

Windows Vista, iPhone 3Gs (16GB), iPad (16GB)

Can not believe this has gone on for five years. mmcdonald2k your awesome and thanks for the link. Now it charges from PC while the IPAD is running, not the trickle stuff.

My USB port without modification went from "not charging", would not charge and battery would drain. With a software install now the IPAD sees apple's required response to "are you an apple charger" and now the IPAD says charging and charges just as fast as the apple wall plug.

This totally shows it is a purpose misrepresentation of capability and the charging current is also purposely lowered so to make it useless. All USB ports according to the USB communication specification must report their current capability. The IPAD knows how much the USB port will put it, but instead it ignores it and lowers it charge rate unless it sees the correct apple response.

Conclusion: This totally is a scam.
